Kongsberg EM302
Multibeam Echosounder
The state of the art 30 kHz EM 302 deep water multibeam sonar is manufactured by Kongsberg, Inc of Norway. The EM 302 transducers are modular linear arrays in a Mills cross configuration with separate units for transmit and receive. This sonar offers significantly larger swath width, increased data density and resolution. Beam focusing is applied both during reception and transmission. The system has up to 288 beams / 432 soundings per swath with pointing angles automatically adjusted according to achievable coverage or operator defined limits. In multi-ping mode, 2 swaths are generated per ping cycle, with up to 864 soundings. With multi-ping the transmit fan is duplicated and transmitted with a small difference in along track tilt. The applied tilt takes into account depth, coverage and vessel speed to give a constant sounding separation along track. The beam spacing can be adjusted as equi-distant or equi-angular. EM 302 uses both CW pulses and FM sweep pulses with pulse compression on reception, in order to increase the maximum useful swath width. The transmit fan is split in several individual sectors with independent active steering according to accomplish compensation for the vessel movements: yaw, pitch and roll. The high density, high resolution, large coverage and water column capability makes EM 302 an ideal system to explore the sea bed and the water column for detection and characterization of a broad spectrum of features.

The Simrad EK60 Scientific Sounder system is a new generation fishery researchtool, based on experience from the EK500. The new electronic hardware is combined with up to date PC processing and Windows operation. The EK60 provides facilities for accurate echo sounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The system communication is through Ethernet, which gives flexibility in the location of the EK60 system units and allows easy access to data from other instruments or stations on a vessel network. A post processing software, BI60, is also included in the EK60 system.

Wind Speed and Direction
The wind direction sensor is a rugged molded vane. The wind speed sensor is a four blade helicoid propeller. Propeller diameter is slightly reduced from our standard model to minimize vibration at high speeds. External housing surfaces are coated with a specially formulated, Ice-resistant coating to improve performance in harsh alpine conditions. The all-black color scheme further enhances ice-shedding performance of the sensor. The instrument is made of UV stabilized plastic with stainless steel and anodized aluminum fittings.

NOAA Seirios Towed Camera Platform
2011-03
creation
Seirios
Seirios is a 6,000m rated camera platform designed for ocean exploration as part of a two-body tethered system. As a stainless steel framed platform of cameras, lights, and sensors, Seirios operates from the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer (R337) along with the ROV Deep Discoverer. Attached to the ship by the electro-optical-mechanical 0.68 cable, Seirios carries an articulated HD camera and six 400W HMI lights for video production and improved lighting for D2. Fore and aft lateral thrusters enable Seirios to turn 360 degrees to maintain illumination in a desired direction. Seirios can also move laterally, within the constraints of the its cable. With the ROV attached by a 30m neutrally buoyant tether, one significant reason for utilizing Seirios in this two-body configuration is to decouple Deep Discoverer from the ship's motion. A suite of sensors provide real-time measurements of conductivity, temperature, depth, pressure, and more transmitted through high speed fiber optic communications.

Deep Discoverer
Deep Discoverer, or D2, is a 6,000m rated ocean exploration remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Operating from the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer (R337), D2 is part of an advanced two-body tethered system. Its two high definition cameras and 16,600 lumens of hydraulically positionable LED lights produce broadcast-quality high definition video streamed live to internet connections around the world via telepresence. Navigational sensors, including a fiber optic gyroscope and doppler velocity log, 40HP of electric propulsion, and an integrated control system capable of precise auto-pilot flight and station-keeping, allow pilots to image the most obscure objects of the subsea world. D2 transmits real-time sensor measurements of conductivity, temperature, depth, pressure, and more through its high speed fiber optic communications. Additionally, a hydraulic pump powers two 7-function manipulators and an extendable utility drawer. Three large syntactic foam blocks give D2 the ability to install up to 400 lbs of additional equipment making Deep Discoverer a very flexible platform for ocean exploration.

Kongsberg OE14-122/123
Pan and Tilt Zoom Underwater Camera
The Kongsberg Maritime OE14-122 (PAL) and OE14-123 (NTSC) underwater CCD colour cameras provide completely enclosed pan, tilt and zoom functionality previously unavailable. Based on similar technology to the well-proven Kongsberg Maritime OE14-112/3 Zoom, Rotate and Tilt (ZRAT) Camera the OE14-122/3 is most suitable for mounting on a horizontal axis. This allows the camera to be used in a restricted space without fear of fouling or in a multi-role environment when a camera is required to address multiple tasks. Close up inspection capability is obtained by using a 10x (40x with digital) zoom for powerful long-range viewing. The OE14-122/123 uses the latest Super HAD and DSP technology giving excellent light sensitivity and image definition. When used with the GUI provided, control of the iris is possible, the camera can be given an ID number together with the ability to display Time and Date and a built-in field memory allows a snapshot capability. In addition, an advanced position on screen display feature is provided, as is the ability to control a series of cameras in a multi-drop arrangement. The unique Kongsberg Maritime IR remote control allows long line drive and camera control set up without risking damage to the integrity of housing seals.
