Daily Series of Synoptic Weather Maps for the Northern Hemisphere

Daily Series of Synoptic Weather Maps for the Northern Hemisphere is historical data that is archived at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). Part I consists of plotted and analyzed daily maps of sea-level and 500-mb maps for 0300, 0400, 1200, 1230, 1300, and 1500 GMT. It was published from January 1899 through June 1971. Each volume of the series contains one sea level map and one 500-millibar map for each day of the month. The 500-millibar charts began with the December 1944 issue. Part II Northern Hemisphere data tabulations contain daily sypnoptic surface and upper air reports. Sea Level data are presented in two sections; one for land reports and one for marine reports. The publication began with data for October 1, 1945 and was published on a daily basis through December 31, 1963. Data for November and December 1945 and January 1, 1954 through June 30, 1955 were not compiled. Although formal publication of these data terminated December 31, 1963, subsequent data through December 31, 1978, were compiled and placed on 35-millimeter microfilm.
