SWFO CCOR1 L3 data on GOES-19

browse graphicNOAA GOES-19 CCOR Instrument
This data collection consists of archived Space Weather Follow On (SWFO) Level 3 data from the Compact Coronagraph-1 (CCOR1) on Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite 19 (GOES-19). The archival process includes daily files. The CCOR-1 instrument generates 96 files per day per level in one tar file that contains FITS. These data are produced by the CCOR-1 instrument aboard the GOES-19 spacecraft. The instrument observes broadband optical light that is scattered from coronal electrons and heliospheric dust. GOES-19 launched in late April 2024. Other products available are auxiliary files (pkt-l0_g19, orb-pr_g19, and sc-att_g19); CCOR1 files (ccor1-l0a_g19, ccor1-l0b_g19, ccor1-l1a_g19, ccor1-l1b_g19, and ccor1-l2_g19); and, National Centers for Environmental Data (NCEI) Retrospective Science products (sci_ccor1-l1a_g19, sci_ccor1-l1b_g19, sci_ccor1-l2_g19, sci_ccor1-l3_g19, sci_ccor1-dm_g19, and sci_ccor1-mm_g19).

The Compact Coronagraph (CCOR) consists of two slightly different coronagraphs.  Both are novel designs, allowing for a smaller coronagraph than the previously-flown traditional Lyot designs.  CCOR-1 will fly on the GOES-19 observatory, and CCOR-2 will fly on SWFO-L1.  Both instruments will observe the density structure of the white-light solar corona (atmosphere), enabling detection of Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) shortly after they erupt.

    Supplemental Information
NOAA’s GOES-19 is the fourth and final satellite in the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) – R Series, the Western Hemisphere’s most sophisticated weather-observing and environmental-monitoring system. The GOES-R Series provides advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements, real-time mapping of lightning activity, and monitoring of space weather.
Purpose Users of the SWFO archive data can be categorized into four distinct groups: NOAA and partner agencies involved in operational and decision support product development, retrospective users accessing data through virtual observatories, researchers engaging in basic scientific inquiry, and users with limited experience in the field.
    Use Limitations
    • These GOES-19 data have reached provisional maturity and are still undergoing testing. Users receiving these data through any dissemination means assume all risk related to their use and NOAA disclaims any and all warranties, whether express or implied, including (without limitation) any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
