Temperature, pressure and light data collected by attached Archival Transmitting Tags to Salvelinus malma (Dolly Varden trout) in the Wulik River, Alaska, during 2012-06 to 2013-10 (NCEI Accession 0119954)
This dataset contains data collected by electronic tags (Pop-up Satellite Archival Transmitting) attached to Salvelinus malma (Dolly Varden trout) in the Wulik River, Alaska, in 2012 and 2013. Dolly Varden make up an important component of subsistence fisheries in northern Alaskan communities. While it is known that Dolly Varden may be broadly distributed throughout a wide range in the Pacific Ocean during the summer, their distribution in the Chukchi Sea is unknown. Because of this knowledge gap, fisheries managers are unable to assess potential risks of human activities, such as gas and oil exploration on Dolly Varden. This project (attaching PSAT tags to Dolly Varden) was an attempt to address this knowledge gap and provide baseline information on their oceanic distribution, and depth and temperature occupancy.

Supplemental Information | Data were collected by pop-up Satellite Archival Transmitting (PSAT) Tags: These are electronic tags which collect environmental data, while attached to Dolly Varden. On a predetermined date, the tags release from the fish, float to the surface, and transmit archived data to Argos Satellites. |
