This dataset contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile and time series data logged by the Scientific Computer System (SCS) aboard NOAA Ship Gordon Gunter in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Ocean from 2017-07-02 to 2017-08-25. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel aboard the ship submitted these data and associated metadata to NCEI. In addition, this dataset contains supplementary cruise-level metadata, which OMAO personnel logged in the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL). OMAO and NCEI personnel developed the automated process to archive these data under the auspices of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (NOAA R2R) program.

Purpose Using visual and acoustic line-transect techniques, assess cetacean and seabird abundance and distribution. Collect biopsy samples for cetacean stock structure research. Collect oceanographic data for habitat characterization. Collect photographs for species verification and geographic/habitat variation studies.
