This dataset contains long-term monitoring data collected at the Duke Marine Lab Sill as part of a larger effort to monitor local fringing marshes in Carteret County. The monitoring data is stored in one .xlsx, three .csv files, and two .tif files. The .xlsx contains vegetative community data. The three .csv files contain the SET, sediment, and feldspar data. The .tif files consist of ortho mosaic images, captured using a DJI Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic 3M drones, in 2019 and 2025. Routine vegetation surveys were conducted starting in 2008 to monitor change in the vegetative community composition and total cover at 30 fixed plots. Prior to the vegetation surveys, two surface elevation tables (SETs) were installed in 2004 and elevation changes over time were tracked with millimeter scale resolution. Sediment was also collected prior vegetation monitoring to determine the grain size distribution of placed sediment. Grain size was determined by sieving collected sediment through a series of sieves of decreasing mesh size. The grain sizes were split into 3 categories: gravel (>0.2mm), sand (0.063-2mm), and silt (<0.063mm). Percent organic matter was determined via loss on ignition (LOI). Additionally, to measure sediment deposition during hurricanes, feldspar plots were placed at high, mid and low elevations as the hurricanes were approaching (Dorian and Florence). Following the storm passage (within a week) deposition of sediment on top of feldspar was measured. More information on this site can be found here: https://arcg.is/1PufHu3

Rinsed according to wet sieving protocol through 2mm and 63 um sieves (sieved into 3 categories: gravel ( >0.2mm), sand (0.063-2mm), and silt (<0.063mm)) then dried overnight at 100 deg. C. Organic matter samples ashed at 475 deg. C. for 6+ hours.
