NODC Standard Product: Texas-Louisiana Shelf Circulation and Transport Processes Study, 1992-1994
This collection includes data that was collected by Texas A&M University (TAMU) as part of the Texas-Louisiana Shelf Circulation and Transport Processes Study (LATEX A), and was included in a set of NODC Standard Product CD-ROMs. This collection includes MiniSpec directional wave data, SeaData non-directional wave data, current direction/velocity, water temperature, air temperature, salinity, hydrographic, ADCP, drifting buoy, and expendable probe data, as well as project reports.
The Louisiana-Texas Shelf Physical Oceanography Program (LATEX) was sponsored by the Minerals Management Service (MMS) of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Of its three study units, the Texas-Louisiana Shelf Circulation and Transport Processes Study (LATEX A or LATEX Shelf) was conducted by the Texas A&M University System. The LATEX A field program ran from April 1992 to December 1994. The study area encompassed the Texas-Louisiana continental shelf offshore of approximately the 10-m isobath, from the Mississippi River to the Rio Grande. The five major field components were: moored current meter measurements, drifting buoys, hydrography, acoustic Doppler current profiling (ADCP), and meteorological buoys.

| Supplemental Information | The contents of these discs are available as 1) a compressed .tar file; 2) complete ISO 9660 disc images, identical replicas of the original discs, in the .iso file in the data/0-data/disc_image/ subdirectory; 3) individual files, by navigating to specific file(s) in the data/0-data/disc_contents/ subdirectory. Software that was developed or provided with this NODC Standard Product may be included in the disc_image/ directory as part of the disc image, but all software that was developed or provided with this NODC Standard Product has been excluded from the disc_contents/ directory. Note: Preliminary metadata for this dataset was extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description. To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all datasets on an ongoing basis. |
