The USF, College of Marine Science, Ocean Circulation Group under the direction of Dr. R.H. Weisberg is maintaining an array of moored instruments on the west Florida shelf for in-situ measurements of currents, temperature, salinity, surface meteorology, and sea level. Our field work also includes participation in monthly hydrographic cruises. In addition to the field work we are running numerical ocean circulation model experiments on the west Florida shelf in collaboration with the biological modeling group headed by Dr. J. Walsh.

Supplemental Information
ECOHAB (ECology and Oceanography of Harmful Algal Blooms) is a scientific program designed to increase understanding of the fundamental processes underlying the impacts and population dynamics of HABs. This program addresses the many factors at organismal, population, community, and ecosystem levels that determine how HAB species respond to, and potentially alter their environment, the manner in which HAB species affect food-web and community interactions. The program is based on the results of a workshop co-sponsored by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Science Foundation (NSF) and currently receives funding from several federal partners including NOAA, NSF, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Purpose The physical oceanography portion of the ECOHAB Florida Program is directed at describing and understanding the role of the west Florida shelf circulation in the generation, maintenance, and dissipation of red tide blooms.
