National Coral Reef Monitoring Program: Carbonate budget data of Bird Key reef in Dry Tortugas from 2018-07-10 to 2018-07-11 (NCEI Accession 0207699)

browse graphicPreview graphic
This archive package contains census-based carbonate budget data that was collected from coral reef habitats located in Dry Tortugas. Surveys were conducted at Bird Key coral reef. Six transect surveys (10m each) were conducted to quantify benthic cover, macrobioerosion, and microbioerosion. Ten parrotfish surveys were also conducted to account for parrotfish erosion rates. These carbonate budget data were collected at the long-term monitoring site during NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological (AOML), Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) led NCRMP missions.

  • Parameter or Variable: Microbioerosion rate (measured); Units: kg/m2/yr; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: chain; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Chain transects are used to quantify rugosity and available substrate (for microborers to colonize). These values and published erosion rates for endolithic microborers are calculated to estimate biological substrate erosion..
