Dataset Overview | National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)

ATOMIC SWIFT drifters: Near-surface meteorology, air-sea fluxes, surface ocean waves, and near-surface ocean properties (turbulent dissipation rate, currents, temperature, salinity) estimated from in-situ and remote sensing instruments aboard six SWIFT drifters (Surface Wave Instrument Float with Tracking) launched and recovered for two different deployments from NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown in the North Atlantic Ocean, near Barbados: Atlantic Tradewind Ocean-Atmosphere Mesoscale Interaction Campaign 2020-01-14 to 2020-02-11 (NCEI Accession 0225279)

The Atlantic Tradewind Ocean-Atmosphere Mesoscale Interaction Campaign (ATOMIC) was a field campaign held January-February 2020 in the tropical North Atlantic east of Barbados. The campaign, the U.S. complement to the European field campaign called EUREC4A, was aimed at better understanding cloud and air-sea interaction processes. ATOMIC included measurements from a NOAA WP-3D Orion "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft, NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown, and unpiloted vehicles launched from Barbados and from NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown. This dataset contains SWIFT drifter data in netCDF files.
