Title: Water temperature data from XBT taken from the Italica in the Southern Ocean (> 60 degrees South) and Southwest Pacific Ocean (limit-147 E to 140 W) from 2010-01-25 to 2010-01-29 (NCEI Accession 0167835)
Abstract: The temperature profiles along the water column from Expendable Bathytermograph (XBT) originate from an oceanographic cruise between New Zealand and the Ross Sea realized by the R/V ‘‘Italica’’ during January 2010 in the framework of the CLIMA IV project of the Italian National Antarctic Programme. Data have been collected using Sippican T7 probes providing temperature profiles with a vertical resolution of 65 cm and a maximum nominal depth of 760 m. Ship speed lower than 15 kn allows the probe to reach about 900 m depth. The transect were completed in 5 days to offer a synoptic picture of the thermal structure of the upper Southern Ocean. A regular 15 nm sampling rate was adopted across the frontal regions of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Successively, in order to remove expected errors, all temperature profiles have been extensively analyzed through quality control procedures as comparisons between adjacent profiles and spike editing. Data are in TXT format.
