The Ocean Archive System searches our original datasets as they were submitted to us, not individual points or profiles. If you want to search and retrieve ocean profiles in a common format, or objectively analyzed fields, your better option may be to use one of our project applications. See: Access Data

Title: CTD, pCO2 water, navigation, underway meteorology, through-flow system, wave radar, echo sounder, and hydrophone data collected from sail training ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl in the North and South Atlantic Ocean from 2021-11-25 to 2022-02-23 (NCEI Accession 0254645)
Abstract: This dataset is part of U.S. State Department MSR U2021-017 as submitted to the World Data Services for Oceanography. CTD data is in txt and RSK (RBR CTD) formats, navigation data is in CSV, PCO2 data are in TXT format, wave radar data are in Python Pickle File (PKL) format, weather station and Ferrybox (through-flow system) data are in JSON format, echosounder data are in Simrad EK80 (*.raw) format, hydrophone sound data are in uncompressed wave format (*.wav). The latter two are compressed by gzip. This archival package is part of the archival collection “Marine in situ data collected from sail training ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl in the North and South Atlantic Ocean from 2021-11-25 to 2022-02-23”.

The scientific program was executed along the sailing route of the Statsraad Lehmkuhl. There was no stopping for station work or transects. There was no trawling or collection of other samples except water sampling from water intakes on board the vessel. The vessel entered USA waters in the beginning of LEG3, after departing from Havana, Cuba on November 28. 2021. On the journey, US ports in Miami FL, New York NY, and Newport RI and in Nassau, Bahamas were visited. After staying in New York from December 19 to January 4, the vessel started LEG4 by sailing to Newport and then left USA waters during the second week of January 2022.

In August 2021, the 107-year-old 98-meter-long tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl departed Norway. It is scheduled to return in April 2023, having sailed 55,000 nautical miles and visited 36 ports worldwide. The main goal is to create attention and share knowledge about the crucial role of the ocean for a sustainable development in a global perspective. The ship is equipped with modern instrumentation and will collect high-quality data of ocean physics, chemistry and biology continuously throughout the journey. It also serves as a floating university, bringing crews of students and young leaders together at different legs. High-level meetings and public events happen during port visits. Real-time access to data, video and stories from the ship serve to inspire and engage not only scientists but also citizens for ocean-based action towards sustainable development worldwide. When the ship returns to Bergen on 15th April 2023, it will start One Ocean Week, a week hosted by the Bergen Municipality with conferences, workshops and activities related to ocean science and public engagement. As a recognized part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the expedition aims to create attention and share knowledge about the ocean's crucial role for a sustainable future in a global perspective. The ship serves as a powerful tool for outreach, inspiration and engagement for the ocean, contributing in particular to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals: 14 - Life below water, 13 - Climate action, 4 - Quality Education, 17 - Partnership for the goals.
