#TITLE:
CTD Data of the Hawaii Undersea Research Program from the 296 Dives
of the Submersible Pisces V within all Hawaiian Islands and Seamounts
during 1990-1999.

#PROJECT:
Hawaii Undersea Research Program (HURL)

Within HURL, there are various subprograms:
Program 1. Habitats, Ecosystems and Fisheries Resources
Program 2. Submarine Volcanic Processes
Program 3. Coral Reefs, Marine Carbonates and Ferromanganese Oxides
Program 4. Coastal and Slope Processes

#PURPOSE:
The mission of HURL is to study deep water marine processes in the
Pacific Ocean.

#ABSTRACT:
The Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory (HURL) was established by the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University
of Hawaii. Its mission is to study deep water marine processes in the
Pacific Ocean. The primary means of surveying are through
use of the Submersible Pisces V, with a depth penetration to
just beyond 2 Km. The submersible is equipped
with a CTD device. This dataset represents the CTD data
for dives throughout all Hawaiian Islands and seamounts
during 1990-1999. The data have not received calibration
other than what was provided by the SeaBird Electronics
CTD agreement. Also, the data have not been rigorously
quality controlled. Use the data with discretion. Please
inform the HURL data management team if questionable
signals are encountered. HURL or NOAA are not responsible
for misuse of the data.

#BEGIN AND END DATES:
1990 02 25 to 1999 09 28

#SAMPLING PERIODS:
See file file HURL_DIVES.DOC
(or hurl_dive_list.csv or hurl_dive_list.prn)

#PARAMETERS:
CTD:
Pressure (Decibars)
Temperature (Degrees Celsius,
   International Temperature Scale of 1990)
Salinity (PSU, 1978 International Practical Salinity Scale)
Oxygen (ML/L)

#METHODOLOGY:
The CTD is turned on for each dive and runs
on a fairly continuous basis. The data are digitally
stored and later converted to scientific units.
The final data do not receive rigorous quality
control or calibration. Use the data with
discretion.
