                   Notice to JASMINE investigators
                   ===============================

A total of 320 CTD casts were obtained at 317 stations occupied during
Leg 2 of the JASMINE cruise (April 30 - June 8, 1999). The data were
processed during the cruise and a preliminary version of the data was
made available to JASMINE investigators at the end of the cruise. A
second version of the data was released on August 6, 1999 after
post-cruise processing, this version included adjustments to salinity
required to meet an accuracy of 0.005 RMS; timing and position
corrections for each cast were also made. The shipboard version did not
discriminate between the dual temperature and conductivity sensor
pairs: Because of fouling events and other considerations, a preferred
sensor pair needed to be selected for each cast. The best sensor set
was selected for use in the second data version.

Here we provide the final version of the CTD dataset after a thorough
calibration sensor analysis and data quality control. Temperature and
salinity adjustments to obtain this dataset from the second version
were less than 0.002 degrees C and 0.005. Also included are the bottle
salinity data, and near surface temperature and salinity data measured
with a thermosalinograph.

The Leg 1 of the JASMINE cruise (or pre-JASMINE) was conducted on
7-22 April 1999. A total of 44 CTD stations were completed during
this survey and the CTD and salinity bottle data are provided here.

Complete documentation about data collection and processing is included
in a data report: "Hydrographic observations during the Joint Air-Sea
Monsoon Interaction Experiment (JASMINE) cruises", distributed to
JASMINE investigators and also available in the world wide web:
http:\\...

This dataset is distributed freely to JASMINE investigators with the
provision that it not be distributed further, and with the provision
that the CTD PIs be consulted on any use of these data which may lead
to publication of results that depend on their availability.

Information about the CTD data acquisition and data processing are
included in the file [methods.ctd]. Details about data format for the
CTD, bottle and thermosalinograph data files are in files [format.ctd],
[format.sea] and [format.tsg] respectivey. Position information for
each CTD cast is included in the cruise summary files [jas0.sum] and
[jas1.sum] for the pre-JASMINE and main JASMINE cruises respectively.
Format information about the summary files is in file [format.sum].
