*Data file(s): PV24zoo.csv, PV24jud.csv

*Format: zooplankton sample file format of the DARWIN INITIATIVE PROJECT.

*Ship (station) name: R/V Professor Vodyanitsky (IBSS, Ukraine).

*Expedition: cruise number 24, July 1987 - September 1987.

*Parameters: SampleID - up to 10-character unique sample identifier;
   Species - taxanomic name of species; Stage - life history or sex;
   Count - number of specimens in sample;
   N/m3 - abundance or concentration (number per cubic meter) in m-3;
   B/m3 - biomass or concentration (wet weight per cubic meter) in mg/m-3;
   AvSize - average length in mm;
   AvWeight - average wet weight of organizms in mg.

*Instruments and methods: Mesozooplankton was sampled by open-closing
JUDAY net with a 36 cm ring diameter and mesh sizes of 125 mkm.
The open-closing mechanism used was the Nansen mechanical lock system
allowing nets to be vertically towed through depths (0-10, 10-25, 25-50, 50-100, 100-200m)
and closed at the upper depth level.
Depth of tow was evaluated by wire paid out and the angle of wire inclination.
The 10-20 ml samples were preserved in 3-4% buffered formaldehyde and
processed on return to the laboratory. All of copepods were identified
to genus level, other taxanomic groups - to type, class, order and family
levels. Individual weight of organisms was calculated from measurements of
body length using the so-called Tables of Standard Weights (Kanaeva, 1962;
Shmeleva, 1963; Kryilov, 1968; Gruzov, Alexeeva, 1970) or nomograms relating
the length and a typical body shape with the weight of animals (Chislenko 1968).

*Accuracy: The error of the depth determination is approximately 0.5 m.
