Source: These data from Dr. Brian Tissot, Washington State University, were
forwarded to National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) (now National
Centers for Environmental Information, NCEI) via ftp by Patrick Caldwell,
NODC Liaison Officer at the University of Hawaii.

Actions: Patrick Caldwell served as data content manager in 2005.
At that time, the dataset was prepared to NODC archive standards of
2005 then tarred, zipped, and sent via FTP to NODC. At NODC,
these data were uncompressed and copied to subdirectory data/0-data.
In August 2018, the dataset organization was brought up to NCEI
2018 archive standards.

Files:

about/
This directory contains files created by NCEI staff and processing,
including 'negotiable' information between NCEI staff and the data provider.

0002288_lonlat.txt -
Contains sample locations for these data. Each row contains the
geographical position where these data were collected (longitude in
the left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees).
NCEI may have corrected geographic positions that seemed to be in
error when generating this file. However, NCEI did not change the
original data files under the directory data/0-data/.

0002288_map.jpg -
Sample location map for these data.

0-email.txt -
E-mail from personnel notifying NCEI that they sent their data to
  the NCEI via FTP.

about/NODC_compiled_metadata/ -
subdirectory containing metadata in both Federal Geographic Data
Committee (FGDC)(/fgdc) and simple text formats (/simple).

data/0-data/
This directory contains the data files as submitted to NCEI.

data/1-data/
This directory contains files that were converted by NCEI from their
originally submitted format under the 0-data/ directory to an archival
format.

WHAP_Master_Database/csv/ -
Comma-separated-value (CSV) files that NCEI converted from the Microsoft
MS Access file in 0-data/. There is one CSV file for each table or
query in the MS Access database. The filenames have an indicator
(tbl: table; qry: query) followed by the table or query name, with
spaces in names replaced by underscores (_).
