Subject: [CARIMED] - Update of NCEI cruise metadata and files for 06MT20011018
To: alex Kozyr - NOAA Affiliate <alex.kozyr@noaa.gov>

Hi Alex,

Regarding NCEI cruise metadata and files for cruise 06MT20011018, here are the actions to be made on the NCEI website:
Changes for data files on NCEI for cruise 06MT20011018:
Reupload the csv file. We had updated it because the metadata was incomplete. You can find the updated csv file here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gRDKmvmuSSIBQ1JW1pK4LIl9ZubL_pqt
Would it be possible to upload a map to the NCEI file repository for the cruise? The map is also here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gRDKmvmuSSIBQ1JW1pK4LIl9ZubL_pqt
This cruise was already in the NCEI repository before CARIMED. Therefore it has extra files in the NCEI repository. Could we only leave the CSV file (to be reuploaded), the map (to upload), and the cruise report (already in the folder. Files m51-2.pdf and m51.pdf), and maybe move the other files inside a folder of "extra files"? This way, the possible CARIMED user will have a similar repository for each CARIMED cruise.
Metadata information to be updated on NCEI for cruise 06MT20011018:
The INVESTIGATORS and Principal Investigators should only be Wolfgang Roether.
In the CSV file we have data from CTDSAL but not for SALNTY. However, in the metadata from NCEI it appears as SALNTY and not as CTDSAL. I think the parameter included in NCEI should be CTDSAL.
For the "VARIABLES/PARAMETERS" fields to be coherent with all the cruises, I would suggest changing the variable names for 06MT20011018 as they are for 06M220180302, i.e.:
For CTDTMP:
Controlled vocabulary name should be CTD WATER TEMPERATURE
For OXYGEN:
The name of the variable should be changed to Dissolved Oxygen (abbreviation should still be OXYGEN).
The field "Observation type: Bottle discrete" should be added.
For SILCAT:
The name of the variable should be changed to Silicate (abbreviation should still be SILCAT).
The field "Observation type: Bottle discrete" should be added.
For NITRAT:
The name of the variable should be changed to Nitrate (abbreviation should still be NITRAT).
The field "Observation type: Bottle discrete" should be added.
For PHSPHT:
The name of the variable should be changed to Phosphate (abbreviation should still be PHSPHT).
The field "Observation type: Bottle discrete" should be added.
For TCARBN:
The name of the variable should be changed to Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (abbreviation should still be TCARBN).
The field "Observation type: Bottle discrete" should be added.
The field "Sampling instrument: Niskin Bottles" should be added.
The field "Detailed sampling and analyzing information: TCARBN in µmol.kg-1 of seawater was sampled from the rosette, samples were distributed over the whole water column from up to 19 depths (270 samples total). Samples were fixed with 100µl HgCl2 and were analysed for alkalinity and total inorganic carbon simultaneously in the home lab (Institut für Meereskunde, Kiel). TCARBN was analysed with a coulometric titration (Johnson et al., Mar. Chem., 1993). Certified Reference Material for CO2 (Dr. Dickson) was used batch #48 and #52, the offset correction applied was 0.62±1.01 µmol.kg-1. The precision for TCARBN evaluated using CRMs was estimated to be ±1.5 µmol.kg-1." should be added.
For ALKALI:
The name of the variable should be changed to Total alkalinity (abbreviation should still be ALKALI).
The field "Observation type: Bottle discrete" should be added.
The field "Sampling instrument: Niskin Bottles" should be added.
The field "Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Alkalinity samples were fixed with 100µl HgCl2 and were analysed for alkalinity and total inorganic carbon simultaneously in the home lab (Institut für # Meereskunde, Kiel). Alkalinity was analyzed following the potentiometric technique by Mintrop et al. (Ciencias Marinas, 2000). Certified Reference Material for CO2 (Dr. Dickson) batch #48 and #52 were used, the offset correction applied was -0.82±2.85 µmol.kg-1. The precision for alkalinity evaluated using CRMs was estimated to be ±4.2 µmol.kg-1" should be added.
Add the field "Researcher name:" to the following parameters and fill it with the following information:
CTDTMP: B. Manca (OGS)
CTDSAL: B. Manca (OGS)
OXYGEN: N. Kress (IOLR)
SILCAT: N. Kress (IOLR)
NITRAT: N. Kress (IOLR)
PHSPHT: N. Kress (IOLR)
TCARBN: A. Schneider (IFM-GEOMAR)
ALKALI:Is A. Schneider (IFM-GEOMAR)
CFC12: B. Klein (UBremen)
CFC11: B. Klein (UBremen)
CFC113: B. Klein (UBremen)
HELIUM: B. Klein (UBremen)
TRITIUM: B. Klein (UBremen)
NEON: B. Klein (UBremen)
Can we include the PIs in charge of the variables as are included for those parameters (under the field "Researcher name")? For other cruises, they appear at least for inorganic carbon variables and CFCs.
"PUBLICATIONS DESCRIBING THIS DATASET" field in NCEI metadata should contain:

"Associated Resources" field in NCEI metadata should contain the references above plus:

Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center. Oak Ridge National Laboratory. US Department of Energy. Oak Ridge. Tennessee. doi: 10.3334/CDIAC/otg.CARINA_06MT20011018.
Add field "Provider Keywords" within "Theme keywords" and include "CARIMED" as the provider keyword (this was included for cruise 06M220180302, the one included in the first email).
