This data package includes data from GRIIDC UDI R1.x138.079:0060. It contains species data caught using longline and trap sets during R/V Apalachee cruise (Cruise designator AP-1410)in the DeSoto Canyon from June 30 to July 08, 2014. For some species, biological data such as length and weights are reported. Additional data includes date, time, set locations (latitudes, longitudes), depth, water temperature, gear deployed and bait used. The Principal Investigator is Dr. R. Dean Grubbs from Coastal and Marine Laboratory at Florida State University (FSU).

The purpose of this cruise was to evaluate the biological diversity and trophic interactions among organisms ranging from primary producers to apex predators and from the deep-sea benthos to the coast. These data contribute to a food web model used to determine risks to ecosystem structure and function and regional economies following from extreme anthropogenic events (e.g., discharged and background hydrocarbon) and adaptive management strategies.

There are both originators files and files that were converted by GRIIDC from the originally submitted format to an archival format. The converted files are located in the same directory as the original files. The Excel Archival Tool was used to programmatically convert Microsoft Excel files into open-source formats suitable for long-term archival.

Converted File Types:
*.csv- Comma-separated-value(CSV) files that GRIIDC converted from Microsoft Excel files. There is one CSV file for each Excelspreadsheet.

This data package contains two sub-directory within the main directory "AP-1410/Data". 1) AP-1410_Documentation 2) LonglineTrap_Data

1) AP-1410/Data/AP-1410_Documentation: It contains the following files:
Originator files:
Cruise_Metadata_Key.xlsx - Contains information about the data files including description of headers.

<GoMRIRFPnumber.GoMRIProjectID-GoMRItaskID-datastenumber>-metadata.xml - GRIIDC Standard ISO 19115-2 Metadata

Files converted by GRIIDC: One originator.xlsx file was converted to .csv file as mentioned below:
Cruise_Metadata_Key.csv

2) AP-1410/Data/LonglineTrap_Data: It contains the following files:
Originator files:
AP-1410_MetadataQuery.xlsx - Contains information about date, time, set locations (latitudes, longitudes), depth, wind speed, seastate, water temperature, gear deployed and bait used.

AP-1410_SampleData.xlsx - Contains information about species like name, sex, weight, length, and maturity state, if available. Species lengths are categorized as teleost standard length or shark pre-caudal length (SL), batoid disk width (DW), crustaceans carapace width (CW),crustacean carapace length (CL), teleosts/sharks fork length or batoids disk length (FL), teleosts/batoids total length or sharks stretched total length (TL). All the lengths are measured in centimeters. Column U through AG indicate if samples were taken for analysis where SI = Biopsy for stable isotope analyses (# of samples); GN = Genetics samples (# of samples); RP = Reproductive tract (Y if collected); WM = White muscle for purposes other than stable isotopes e.g. mercury analyses (# of samples); BD = Blood (# of vials); BI = Bile (Y if collected); ST = Stomach (Y if collected); AG = Aging structure (S=spines, R=rays, O=otoliths, V=vertebrae); Other = Any additional tissues collected (e.g. radiocarbon); SP = Specimen; whole specimen retained after sampling (Y/N); Vou = Voucher; specimen is a voucher retained for museum curation (Y/N); Specimen Comments = any additional specimen comment; CO=clasper outside (measurement, mm); CI=clasper inside (measurement, mm); G=gill; H=heart; OG=oviducal gland; MOD=maximum ovum diameter; UW-uterine width (mm); FB=football ova; YFS=yellow flaccid sacs; SRB=small round bodies; VDPC=vas deferens partially coiled; LAB=lost at boat; VDMC=vas deferens mostly coiled.

Files converted by GRIIDC: Two originator.xlsx files were converted to .csv files as mentioned below:
AP-1410_MetadataQuery.csv
AP-1410_SampleData.csv

GRIIDC Note: All the blank elements in the metadata file AP-1410_metadata.xml will be completed by NCEI.
