Source: This accession contains the Quality Assurance (QA) statistics (Rich
Inventory) from AVHRR Pathfinder Version 5.2 (PFV5.2) L3-Collated (L3C) sea
surface temperature (SST) in global and selected regions, which is produced by
satellite team in National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The PFV5.2 SST
is originally produced by satellite team in NODC, and each data file contains
data collected over a 12-hour period, or daily and nightly. All PFV5.2 SST
data are published on following URL:
http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/SatelliteData/pathfinder4km/

Actions: This dataset is generated from the PFV5.2 SST data. Seven statistical
indices (Valid observation observational number, mean, standard deviation,
minimum, maximum, observation number over 3-Signal edited and median) are
calculated from each data file over a given region (see below for regions),
e. g., global, tropics, middle and latitudes, and 22.5x22.5 (lon/lat) degree
"chunks". The results are converted into CF(Climate and Forecast)-compliant
NetCDF format.

Files:

about/
This directory contains files created by NODC staff, email correspondence,
and other 'negotiable' information between NODC staff and the data provider.

This directory contains the NetCDF-format QA statistical data.

Day - ascending orbit:

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_day_global.nc
   - global ocean: 90S-90N, 180W-180E.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_day_nino34.nc
   - Nino3.4 region: 5S-5N, 120W-170W.

   - northern high-latitude ocean: 60N-90N, 180W-180E.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_day_north_mid_lat.nc
   - northern mid-latitude ocean: 30N-60N, 180W-180E.

   - southern mid-latitude ocean: 30S-60S, 180W-180E.

Night - descending orbit:

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_night_global.nc
   - global ocean: 90S-90N, 180W-180E.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_night_nino34.nc
   - Nino3.4 region: 5S-5N, 120W-170W.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_night_north_high_lat.nc
   - northern high-latitude ocean: 60N-90N, 180W-180E.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries__north_mid_lat.nc
   - northern mid-latitude ocean: 30N-60N, 180W-180E.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_night_south_high_lat.nc
   - southern high-latitude ocean: 60S-90S, 180W-180E.

 PFV52_QA_stat_timeseries_night_south_mid_lat.nc
   - southern mid-latitude ocean: 30S-60S, 180W-180E.

Following two data files contain the QA statistics over
a 22.5 x 22.5 (lon/lat) degree region, therefore globally
resulting in 16x8 "chunks" and are save with center
longitude and latitude of a domain where the indices are
calculated.
