Chris

Hope this email finds you well. In case you are out of the office, I have also
cc'd the NODC.DataOfficer email ... apologies for any confusion that may cause.

After many fits and starts (and changing guidance from bosses and leadership re:
open data, etc), I have finally started the process of assembling datasets from
our seal work in Alaska for archival at NODC.

Please find attached a first, smaller, dataset so I can get my feet wet. The
data format is a csv file and I have also included my best attempt at complete
ISO19115-2 metadata.

There are two key aspects to this dataset that are important to us:

1) The dataset includes data collected and made available by other agencies and
individuals as well as NOAA efforts. This dataset collates all of those counts
into a single collection. It is important that we cite and acknowledge those
contributions.

2) We have submitted a manuscript for peer review and publication based on these
data. We are hopeful the DOI minting process is mature enough that we can secure
a DOI for this set and provide that as a proper citation in the manuscript.

Please let m know if you have any questions or additional ideas for
editing/enhancing the metadata. I have a much bigger dataset for harbor seal
counts across the entire state of Alaska that I will be tackling next. My plan
is to use this as a template/springboard for that effort.

cheers
Josh
