Summary of the SCOPE experiment

CARTHE investigators conducted the Surfzone Coastal Oil Pathway Experiment
(SCOPE) during the period 2-19 December 2013, focused on measuring the
inner-shelf and surf-zone processes responsible for oil transport near Santa
Rosa Island, FL. The intensive three-week experiment included a cross-shore
array of fixed instruments to measure winds, waves, currents, and water
properties from 10m water depth to the shoreline. Lagrangian drifters, dye
releases, and moving-vessel measuring platforms were also used. This unique
set of observations is valuable both for quantifying nearshore physics and
mixing estimates, and for assessing nearshore model forecasts. The
observations captured a wide range of wind and wave forcing due to
a number of synoptic winter storms that occurred during the experiment.

This dataset was created by the Consortium for Advanced Research on
Transport of Hydrocarbon in the Environment (CARTHE). This research was
made possible by a grant from BP/The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative.

These CTD casts accompanied some of the GPS surface drifter deployments off
the coast of Santa Rosa Island. The data was collected on three consecutive
days, with 7 casts on each of the first two days and 12 casts on the last day.
The water column was sampled down to about 10-23 m, depending on the location.

Each Excel tab corresponds to one day. Position and start time of each cast
 are included on each sheet.
For each measurement, the data include time, temperature, pressure, depth,
 salinity, and density anomaly.
