Source: Global Data Assembly Center (GDAC) for the Global Ocean Surface
Underway Data (GOSUD) project. The GOSUD GDAC is managed by IFREMER. The
GOSUD Project is an Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)
programme designed as an end to end system for thermosalinograph data
collected by ships as they traverse their ocean tracks.

Actions: These data were mirrored from the IFREMER ftp site at
ftp://ftp.ifremer.fr/ifremer/gosudv3/ to the NCEI site at
/nodc/data/IODE-GOSUD/SIP/gosudv3/. Data were copied to data/0-data/
and uncompressed. The files were reorganized by year when archiving.

Files:
about/
This directory contains files generated by NCEI staff and other 'negotiable' information between
NCEI staff and the data provider.

0163563_lonlat.txt -
Contains sample locations for these data. Each row contains the
geographical position where these data were collected (longitude in the
left column and latitude in the right column, both in degrees).

0163563_map.jpg -
Sample location map for these data.

data/0-data/
This directory contains the data files as mirrored and uncompressed by NCEI. The files are organized
by year.

The file naming conventions for these files are as follows, they are named as:

shipcode_YYYY_MM_a_RT_Gosud_V3.nc for GOSUD v3.0 RT data files
shipcode_YYYY_a_NRT_Gosud_V3.nc for GOSUD v3.0 NRT data files.
     where,
shipcode: the assigned code for each vessel, mostly callsign.
     YYYY: four digital year
     MM: two digital month
a: a sequence letter which can increase alphabetically starting at 'a'.
     RT: real-time
     NRT: near-real time
Gosud: Global Ocean Surface Underway Data
     V3: version 3
     nc: netCDF format

Note: There are many files with zero observation record (e.g. length(DAYD) = 0) on GOSUD FTP site.
Those files are not archived in this NCEI accession.
