Hi Lauren,

Ø does the updated 2017 file include any additional sample locations
or dates or is it simply correcting data points within the file?

It is correcting data points. There are no new locations or dates.

Hi Tim,
I made the requested updates to the landing pages metadata
for both accessions as requested above.

I will be glad to go ahead and create Version 2 of NCEI Accession
0181898 which will include the 2017 updated file.
I do have a quick question, does the updated 2017 file include any
additional sample locations or dates or is it simply correcting
data points within the file?
Once you send the 2018 and 2019 data, I will create a Version 3
of this accession that will include the additional new 2018 and
2019 files.

Thank you for your diligent work to ensure this accession accuracy.

Thank you,
Lauren

Lauren,

> I want to confirm if the updated 2017 file and the new 2018 and 2019
files are all for the same accession- 0181898?

Correct.

2019 isn't even fully ready yet, so I'd say for now we either include
just the updated 2017 file, or no updated files. I don't know the
negative impacts of creating a Version 2, but if not too onerous,
I'd say go ahead and created a version 2 which includes the
updated 2017 file.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Victoria and Tim,
Thank you for your prompt responses. I can make the changes you requested
to the information displayed on the geoportal landing pages. I will make
those changes later today and the updates will be effective within 24hrs.

File Updates:
I want to confirm if the updated 2017 file and the new 2018 and 2019 files
are all for the same accession- 0181898? I can create a revision for this
accession, with the updated and new files (along with all of the original
files) in a Version 2 of this accession.

How long do you anticipate it taking to prepare the 2018 and 2019 files?
If it is not too long, I would recommend sending all the updates together
so that only one revision of this accession will be created.

Please let me know your thoughts or if you have any questions on this process.

Thank you,
Lauren

Hi Lauren and Victoria,

I think accession 0187104 is not the right one, since the description
does not mention Halophila johnsonii. I think Victoria meant 0181898.
Victoria, please confirm.

There are a couple of other changes we should make. One is to include
the fact that the team used a meter stick to measure canopy height.
This shows up on the dataset landing page under Lineage > Processing
Steps for the parameter named SEA GRASSES - CANOPY HEIGHT. Here's what
the updated Sampling_and_Analyzing_Method should say. I've highlighted
the additional text in yellow.

The four corners of the boat (port-stern, port-bow, starboard-bow,
and starboard-stern) are used as seagrass sample locations. Measurements
are taken approximately 2-4 meters from the boat by tossing a 0.25 m2
quadrat into the water and using a meter stick. Within each quadrat,
five canopy height measurements are made for seagrass species present.

The second change is an updated 2017 percent cover dataset which fixes
a mistake in the data, so we need to replace the file 2017_QuadratPercentCover.csv
with the attached version.

The data package covers 2011 to 2017. A third change would be to add
data from 2018. I haven't prepared the 2018 for archiving, so if it's
feasible to add it and if Victoria wants to do it, let me know. I
currently don't have funding to do this, so it may take a few days
to get this ready if that's what we want to do. The 2018 files would
look like the 2017 files. I'm asking for advice from Lauren on how
feasible it is to add this, and advice from Victoria about whether
she wants to do it.

Regarding accession 0187104, its SEA GRASSES - CANOPY HEIGHT sampling
method should also be updated to include " and using a meter stick"
as shown above.

Hi Lauren,

Thank you so much for your assistance with this, I really appreciate it!
I am glad you attached the link because when I clicked on it, I realized
I provided y'all with a different NCEI accession (I apologize for this
inconvenience, we have a couple of datasets). My intention was to correct,
"Seagrass canopy height, water depth, chlorophyll-a concentration and
other plant and water quality indicators in Coastal Waters of Texas
(NCEI Accession 0181898)". Fortunately, the names on the data files
are correct, and just the description needs to be adjusted to
"Halophila engelmannii" instead of "Halophila johnsonii". Again, my
sincerest apologies for any confusion or additional work.

Best,
Victoria

Hi Victoria,

Thank you for reaching out to NCEI about this correction. I will be
glad to assist you with this update and ensure your dataset is accurate
and up to date. Is the incorrect name on the geoportal landing page
for this accession ( https://doi.org/10.25921/9qkw-3w27) or is it
also in your data files?

If it is in a data file, please send me an updated version of the
file(s) with the corrected name. You can send me the updated files
by attaching them to this email thread.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Lauren

NCEI online publication confirmation of NCEI Accession 0187104: Update request if possible

Hello,

I am hoping to receive assistance with updating some of the content associated
with NCEI Accession 0187104. I am one of the authors of this dataset and worked
closely with Tim Whiteaker during the publication process (thread below).
Unfortunately, I just noticed that we provided an incorrect genus and species
in our dataset description. Currently the third sentence reads, "Typical species
represented within the data include Halodule wrightii, Thalassia testudinum,
Syringodium filiforme, Halophila johnsonii, and Ruppia maritima." If possible,
we would like to remove "Halophila johnsonii" and insert "Halophila engelmannii",
which is the name of the correct species. Any assistance with correcting this
error is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Victoria Congdon
