Catch from individual trawls is standardized to account for sampling effort and expressed as the number per 1 hour tow. Individual catches are then summarized by 10 minute longitude by latitude blocks in which trawling occurred. Mean catch (CATCH) by 10 minute longitude by latitude areas is represented as a GIS map layer. The layer attributes include the central longitude (LON10) and latitude (LAT10); a polygon identifier (GRID10ID); the species represented (TAXON), the number of samples (N), the mean catch (CATCH), the standard error of the mean (CATCH_SE) and the minimum catch (CATCH_MIN) and maximum catch (CATCH_MAX) for each 10 minute longitude by latitude polygon in which at least one trawl was taken. Individual map layers were generated for the following species: brown shrimp (Farfantepenaeus aztecus), pink shrimp (Farfantepenaeus duorarum), white shrimp (Litopenaeus setiferus), Atlantic croaker (Micropogonias undulatus), gag grouper (Mycteroperca microlepis), gray triggerfish (Balistes capriscus), gulf butterfish (Peprilus burti), king mackerel (Scomberomorus cavalla), lane snapper (Lutjanus synagris), red grouper (Lutjanus campechanus), red snapper (Epinephelus morio), sand seatrout (Cynoscion arenarius), silver seatrout (Cynoscion nothus), Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus maculatus), spot (Leiostomus xanthurus), vermillion snapper (Rhomboplites aurorubens), yellowedge grouper (Hyporthodus flavolimbatus), Atlantic sharpnose (Rhizoprionodon terraenovae), blacknose shark (Carcharhinus acronotus), blacktip shark (Carcharhinus limbatus) purpose: To provide information about the distribution and abundance of fish and invertebrate species found during SEAMAP Summer and Fall Groundfish Surveys fisheries-independent surveys from 1987 to 2018. status: (MD_ProgressCode) completed pointOfContact: NCEI (pointOfContact) resourceMaintenance: (MD_MaintenanceInformation) maintenanceAndUpdateFrequency: (MD_MaintenanceFrequencyCode) irregular graphicOverview: default NOAA logo descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Earth Sciences > Oceans > Aquatic Sciences > Fisheries keyword: Earth Science > Biological Classification > Animals/Vertebrates > Fish keyword: Earth Science > Biological Classification > Animals/Invertebrates type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) theme thesaurusName: GCMD Science Keywords descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program keyword: SEAMAP keyword: Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission keyword: GSMFC keyword: bottom trawl keyword: fisheries independent data keyword: SEAMAP Summer Groundfish Survey keyword: SEAMAP Fall Groundfish Survey keyword: species abundance keyword: Brown Shrimp keyword: Pink Shrimp keyword: White Shrimp keyword: Atlantic Croaker keyword: Gray Triggerfish keyword: Gulf Butterfish keyword: Lane snapper keyword: Red Grouper keyword: Red Snapper keyword: Sand Seatrout keyword: Silver Seatrout keyword: Spot keyword: Atlantic Sharpnose Shark keyword: Vermillion Snapper keyword: Farfantepenaeus aztecus keyword: Farfantepenaeus duorarum keyword: Litopenaeus setiferus keyword: Micropogonias undulatus keyword: Balistes capriscus keyword: Peprilus burti keyword: Lutjanus synagris keyword: Epinephelus morio keyword: Lutjanus campechanus keyword: Cynoscion arenarius keyword: Cynoscion nothus keyword: Leiostomus xanthurus keyword: Rhomboplites aurorubens keyword: Rhizoprionodon terraenovae type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) theme thesaurusName: (CI_Citation) title: None date: (unknown) descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Ocean > Atlantic Ocean > North Atlantic Ocean > Gulf of Mexico keyword: Continent > North America > United States of America > Gulf of Mexico keyword: Continent > North America > United States of America > Texas keyword: Continent > North America > United States of America > Louisiana keyword: Continent > North America > United States of America > Mississippi keyword: Continent > North America > United States of America > Alabama keyword: Continent > North America > United States of America > Florida type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) place thesaurusName: GCMD Location Keywords descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Data Collections type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) platform thesaurusName: GCMD Platform Keywords descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: Computer type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) instrument thesaurusName: GCMD Instrument Keywords descriptiveKeywords: (MD_Keywords) keyword: DOC/NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI > National Centers for Environmental Information, NESDIS, NOAA, U.S. Department of Commerce keyword: DOC/NOAA/NMFS > National Marine Fisheries Service, NOAA, U.S. Department of Commerce type: (MD_KeywordTypeCode) dataCentre thesaurusName: GCMD Data Center Keywords resourceConstraints: Distribution Liability resourceConstraints: Use Liability resourceConstraints: Not for Navigation resourceConstraints: (MD_LegalConstraints) useLimitation: (MD_RestrictionCode) otherRestrictions otherConstraints: Cite as: National Marine Fisheries Service. 2019. Catch data at each station was standardized to account for sampling effort and expressed as the number per 1 hour tow. Individual catches were then summarized by 10 minute longitude by latitude grid cells representing the areas in which the trawls were conducted. Mean catch (CATCH) by 10 minute longitude by latitude grid was exported as a polygon layer.
