Hi there Lauren, here is an updated sheet. I've done the best that I
could. Its still not perfect but I think it should provide enough
information for folks.

All the best

Peter

Hi Peter,
The NCEI Data Officer also reviewed your dataset and requested
that the Expeditions acronyms that are listed in your spreadsheet
be defined if at all possible. This will allow future users of
this dataset to understand which cruises collected this data.
I attempted to help search for some of the Expedition codes and
define them in the attached file. Please verify that the ones I
listed are correct and add the additional Expeditions acronym
explanations if known.
You can add the information to this file and submit it to be
archived with your other data file, or you can add this information
to the second tab of your data file and send me another updated
version. Please let me know what you prefer.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Lauren

Hi Peter,
In order to capture different sets of dates listed in your abstract,
do you mind if we add a statement about when the samples were collected?
I drafted a suggested abstract update below, or please feel free to
suggest your own update that captures this information.

Current Abstract:
Barium isotope data from marine barites deposited throughout the ocean.
Samples include cold seep, hydrothermal and pelagic barites. Analyses
were conducted in the NIRVANA lab at WHOI between 2016 and 2019.

Updated abstract:
Barium isotope data from marine barites deposited throughout the world
wide oceans. Samples include cold seep, hydrothermal and pelagic barites.
Samples were collected from 1970 to 2006, and analyses were conducted in
the NIRVANA lab at WHOI between 2016 and 2019. Data are in spreadsheet
format.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Lauren

Hi Lauren, yes the original dates were for dates of analysis,
not dates of collection which I think was my mistake on the initial submission.
And yes please feel free to update the bounding box.

Best

Peter

Hi Peter,
Thank you again for taking the time to gather the needed information
and sending an updated file. This information will be very helpful for
future users of this dataset.

I do have a few follow up questions. Your updated file contains dates
ranging from 1970 to 2006. However in your original S2N submission,
you listed the date range as 2016-01-01 to 2019-01-01. Can you please
help me understand the two different date ranges?

Also, I extracted a bounding box from the coordinate locations within
your datafile:
<-178.073/174.4> <-76.449/48.0>
Can I update the worldwide bounding box you listed in the S2N form
(<-180/180> <90/-90>) in the metadata to the more specific bounding
box from your sample locations? Please let me know if I am overlooking
anything.

Thank you,
Lauren

Hi Peter,
Thank you so much for providing this information in your updated
spreadsheet. I will replace the file in your accession with the
file you provided in this email attachment and finish archiving
your dataset.

Thank you,
Lauren

Dear Lauren, here is the updated spreadsheet. My apologies again on
the slow turn around. Some of the information requested ended up
being quite difficult to track down with old cruise reports. Please
let me know if you have any questions regarding the updated spreadsheet.

kindest regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,
My name is Lauren Jackson from NCEI, and I am archiving your data
package titled "Barium Isotopes collected from world-wide oceans
from 2016-01-01 to 2019-01-01 and analyzed at WHOI". My colleague
Tom Ryan passed along your previous email. Thank you for providing
that information to us. I have a few follow up questions about this
dataset. Would it be possible for you to provide the date for each
of the samples that were collected? Also if it is possible to include
the sample collection depth, I think that will help future users of
this dataset. I understand if that information is not available, or
if it does not make as much sense for the pelagic samples as it does
for the hydrothermal and cold seep samples. However, I thought I
would mention it just in case.

Many thanks,
Lauren
