Dear Hernan,

My name is Hal Batchelder. I coordinated the US GLOBEC NEP program from an office headquartered in Corvallis, OR. Jane CC'd her most recent email to me. I would like to comment on your request.

I believe that all of the CTD data from the CCS LTOP cruises (lead scientist, Jane Huyer) are online through the JGOFS/GLOBEC server. You indicate a desire to download all of the data files at a single time or at least by cruise. That is possible from the JGOFS system.

I'll lead you through the process. Start at URL:
http://globec.whoi.edu/jg/dir/globec/nep/ccs/ltop/

On that page, you will see a link near the top labelled "nepctd". Click that link. You will now see all of the cruises from which LTOP CTD data were collected. The top of the page will say, "/nepctd ---- Level 0"

BEFORE you click any individual cruise, click the link "Level 1" at the top. This burrows into the next layer (level 1) of the data--mostly cruise specific info and cast specific info. Don't worry about the awkward format--we'll fix that later. Next, click the link "Level 2" at the top. This burrows into the next layer (level 2) which has the profile of data for each cast in each cruise. At this point it has all of the data from all of the cruises selected, but the format is not very convenient. Level 2 is the last level of data for this data object. It should say "At last level" near the top. Next you will click "Flat List" at the top. This will prepend all of the level0 and level1 data to each record of the level2 data, producing a column oriented data file. This can be saved directly using "save as" of the equivalent to get a space delimited flat record database.

Hope this info is useful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Regards,
Hal

>> Jane, thank you for your prompt reply. I did take a look at your web site. I can see that it has a great deal of data. However, it seems that one can download the data only by individual stations. I might be asking too much and if so my apologies but ideally, I want to download all of the data files at once (i.e., a single file) or by cruise or year data files. I could do this if the data stations at your site were available on a ftp server as flat data files. This way I can read the data and ingest them into the NODC archives. We do have some GLOBEC data but not all. I will try to retrieve the data at your site or from the GLOBEC site by station files. I will contact someone at GLOBEC to see if the water column data are available in big data file chunks. Thank you again for all your help! Hernan
