Hi Lacey,

While creating the crossreference snippets for this accession, I noticed
that one of the reference links provided does not work anymore (
https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/metdata/metReCON.html). It is giving me a "404
Not Found" error.

I wanted to check in with you to see if you were aware of this, and if you
have any information on when/if the site will be restored. Thanks.

Best regards,
Nick Gagliano

Good morning, Nick,

Thank you for catching this. We have had a few major staffing changes
(retirements) over the past few months. The URL has been updated to this:
https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/metdata/

Cheers,
Lacey Mason

Hi Lacey,

One more question. I'm having trouble making sense of the data as it's
described in the abstract, specifically: "temporal subset of these data
are available from NDBC and the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS) since
2012, this data accession contains the complete record of observations."

However, this submitted data package only includes observations for a
portion of 2021, while NDBC has data since 2012. This data appears to have
more data types than are included at NDBC, but also a lot of the same data.

So the bottom line is that it's confusing how these other datasets relate
to this submission. Or am I misunderstanding it? Perhaps some of the
language in the abstract should be altered? Let me know what you think.

Thanks again,
Nick Gagliano

Hi Nick,

At the end of each year the scientists at GLERL and I review the ReCON
observations, add documentation, and then archive one year of data for each
station. All of the previous data can be found through the
collection-level metadata record here: https://doi.org/10.25921/jvks-b587.
The data are all archived with NCEI all the way back to the first
observations. Note these are coastal buoys, that are in from approximately
April - October which is the ice-free season in the Great Lakes. The data
I submit to NCEI is the full record (all parameters) and all original
timestamps (~2 minute temporal resolution). NDBC only takes specific
parameters and usually only at 5 or 10 minute time intervals. If we do
decide to alter the abstract, it would need to be altered for all of the
other records as well.

This was a confusing dataset to begin archiving. Jonathan Jackson worked
through the back story and helped with the decision to archive the full set
observations with NCEI. It would be good to check in with him if you
recommend any changes or next steps.

Thank you,
Lacey Mason
