Hi Christen,

My name is Nick Gagliano, and I am the archivist working on your data
package that was submitted to NCEI. The data package I am referring to is
entitled: "Phytoplankton Class, Chlorophyll a, and others from 2020-09-16
to 2022-11-08".

I am performing the preliminary appraisal on your submission, and I have
several questions and comments regarding it. This email and your response
will be included in the Archival Information Package (AIP) to provide
provenance for changes made to your original submission.

In the PhytoplanktonandEnviVariables_NCEI spreadsheet:

#1 There are a lot of blank cells in Columns L-AD. Are these cells where no
data was collected, or where the data point was zero? If there is no data,
I would recommend updating those cells to say something like "NA".

#2 There are cells highlighted in green in Column AC. What does this mean?
Perhaps another tab named "Info" could be added to explain this, if the
green cells must remain green.

#3 General formatting:
Please use the same font type for all cells.
Please center all cells in all columns.
There are several chunks of cells (see cell G211 and L76) that have
borders. The rest of the spreadsheet does not have borders. Please be
consistent with this.

Please provide me with an updated version of this spreadsheet at your
earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I hope
to hear back from you soon.

Best regards,
Nick Gagliano

Hi Nick,
Please find attached an updated spreadsheet of the data.
#1 all blank cells did mean no data was collected and so I changed them to
say "NA"
#2 The green was from when I was doing analysis on the data and did not
need to stay green and so I removed the coloring
#3 I updated the general formatting and believe everything is consistent now
Let me know if there are any other changes that need to be made.
Thank you,
Christen Armstrong

Hi Christen,
Thank you for completing the revisions.
Just one more thing I noticed - some of the longitudes are positive (cell
C2, C3, C21, C22, C59, C50, and so on). I am almost certain this is an
error and they should all be negative, but I just want to confirm this with
you. If so, please correct them and send the spreadsheet back to me. Thanks!

Best regards,
Nick

You are correct, those are supposed to be negative. Attached is an updated
spreadsheet.
Thanks,

Hi Christen,

After reviewing your submission, there is one change we need to make, but I
wanted to run it by you first.
I am suggesting that we change the title to "Water Quality and
Phytoplankton Community Composition Data in the Mullica River-Great Bay and
the Toms River-Barnegat Bay in New Jersey from 2020-09-16 to 2020-11-08
(Accession 0283634)."

This title is much more descriptive than the original. Please let me know
if this change is okay with you.

Thanks,
Nick
