Dear Captain Silva:
 
On or about 12 May 2004, your vessel being ready for sea and weather
permitting, you will depart Seattle, Washington, on Voyage # 11, Leg
XII.   Upon completion of the science activities the vessel shall return
to Seattle, Washington, on 18 May 2004.

The major scientific objective of this cruise is the deployment of a
prototype deep-water, acoustically linked moored buoy seafloor
observatory.

The science activities planned include mooring operations, SeaBeam
survey, a node mooring deployment and one Ocean Bottom Seismometer
deployment.
 
The operations area will be the Nootka Fault, off Vancouver Island in the
vicinity of latitude 49 degrees 18.6 minutes North and longitude 127
degrees-42.0 West.   Scientific marine research clearance for work within
the exclusive economic zone of Canada is pending at this time.

Please note:  At the completion of this voyage, both the Captain and
Chief Scientist should fill out a Post-Cruise Assessment form.  The form
is on-line at the following web site:

Please advise the Port Office of all personnel changes prior to departure
and maintain the daily SITREP via INMARSAT C or other means as required.

Please advise the Port Office of all significant expenses incurred,
particularly the quantity, price and source of fuel oil.  Also, at each
port stop, please advise the Port Office the gallons of fuel on board,
stating the date the inventory was taken.
