NEGOM Cruise N1: Sample Log Notes
16-26 November 1997

The two lists below contain comments from the CTD Operator's Log and the water sample Data Collection Form.

CTD Operator's Log

Station	Description

0	Test station; no log of start of cast in GERGNAV event.dat.
3	Large wire angle; < 2m roll; altimeter in & out.
7	No tape record.
8	Exited seasave before popping surface bottle. Restarted seasave and recorded surface data as file L11S04A.dat.
10	Boat traffic caused delay in launch.
11	Crab trap buoys at cast coordinates; boat manuvering may stir up sediment.
12	Display setup not in bottom depth range. Resurfaced rosette to change display, then lowered for cast.
13	No altimeter on display, used depth finder on bridge for bottom depth.
16	GERGNAV logged seq. 14; should have been 16.
22	Bottle 4 not fired, went up to 250m and then returned to 311m to capture.
Filename in header is "10S21"; should be "09S21"! Coordinates & time are correct. File name on disk is correct.
31	Bottle sequence starts with 12.
33	GERGNAV logged as seq. 1.
37	Avg 2 in deck unit. Bottle sequence started with #2.
38	Avg in deck unit 2.
41	File name in CTD data header will have file name S15, not S17. File name on disk is correct. Time & coordinates are correct.
52	GERGNAV logged seq 1. Transmissometer upcast not equal to downcast.
75	Nav quit just prior to start (ACQ 51). Used GYRE MX200 for start position. Event mark when Nav back on at 17:58, with CTD at ~260m going down.
82	CTD may have touched bottom (very lightly). Bottle 1 closed prior to indication of disturbing sediment.
90	Avg 1 in deck unit.
91	Avg 2 in deck unit.
92	Data file N1L01S04.bad: cast should be good, no bottles closed. Data file N1L01S04.dat: second cast taken at this location.

Data Collection Form
CM# = number of bottle in chlorophyll maximum (CM0=none noted).

Station	Description

0	Test station. All bottles tripped in salinity minimum ~34.95. ADCP showed core of current toward SW as we approached station. *Check O-ring on spiget on bottle 1.
1	CM10. ADCP currents out of north at ~1 kt. O-ring on bottle 1 leaks.
2	CM10. O-ring on bot 1 may leak; O-ring on bottle 3 may leak.
3	CM8.
4	CM8. Bottles 5 & 8 leaking; bottles 1, 5, & 8 changed out after this station.
5	CM7.
6	CM4. Bottles tripped out of order: #12 was first (bottom); #5 was last (surface)
7	CM2. Bottle 1 leaky like hose; when tapped top plug, leaking stopped
8	CM0. Surface bottle tripped as separate file-see CTD operator's log. Mixed layer all the way.
9	CM0. Bottle 1: Oxygen flask 6 broken, retaken in flask 726 after other samples.
10	CM0.
11	CM0. Bottle 1 may not be perfectly sealed
12	CM0. Cast rerun; bottles taken on 2nd cast. Well mixed.
13	CM0. Well mixed. no altimeter reading available, so real bottom depth unknown.
14	CM0.
15	CM3.
16	CM5.
17	CM7.
18	CM7. Bottle 1 dripping, then stopped. Bottle 12 tripped first.
19	CM9.
20	CM9.
21	CM9.
22	CM9. Bottle 1 leaks, tap top & leak stops, Bottle 4 not fired, when realized, returned from ~220m) to the ~310m depth and fired it.
23	CM8. Bottle 1 leaks
24	CM8. Bottle 1 no longer leaks!
25	CM8.
26	CM5.
27	CM6.
28	CM5.
29	CM3.
30	CM3. No chl max, straight line.
31	CM2. Bottle 12 tripped first. No chl max.
32	CM2.
33	CM0.
34	CM3. Chl max is really marginal; water column in fluorometry rather well mixed.
35	CM0.
36	CM4.
37	CM10. Possible intermediate neph at 150m.
38	CM9. Spigets on bottles 5 & 8 are very loose. Possible intermediate neph@~250m.
