Data Collection Form
CM# = number of bottle in chlorophyll maximum (CM0=none noted).

Station	Description

0	CM0. Test station. Trip all 12 bottles at same depth; deep salinity minimum. Wire started to play out during bottles 3-7; stabilized at bottle 8. Salinity bottle 137 from flow through. Air value on 7 open, so no oxygen analysis done on this bottle.
1	CM11. Depth of sigma-theta-24.6 missed on downcast, depth of bottle 3 (sic; should read 10) determined on upcast (45m). Bottle 11 large leak, stopped when tapped on top. Bottle 10 small leak. Bottle 6 air value left loose. Bottle 5 slight drip.
2	CM11. Bottle 5 steady drip (bottle 5 o-rings investigated by EQ; seemed fine).
3	CM11.
4	CM11.
5	CM7. Bottle 9: low-nutrient SW for techs.
6	CM6.
7	CM2.
8	CM1.
9	CM0. Ship depth was 16m, CTD depth was 11m (bottom). Bottle 1 did not trip; first bottle trip was #2.
10	CM0. CTD altimeter read 7, ship read 10m.
11	CM0. No chl max.
12	CM2.
13	CM1. Bottles mis-set; #12 actually fired 1st. Highest chlorophyll value at bottom; appeared to be still climbing--> no pigment sample to take below max.
14	CM1. Chl max at bottom, so no below max samples taken.
15	CM2. Missed depth of 25.4 sigma-theta on downcast; rosette returned to 41m slowly on upcast. Cable to rosette re-terminated after cast.
16	CM11. Bottle 1 mis-fired but closed. Bottle 6 did not close (lanyard released). Rosette surfaced with only #12 open. Bottle 11 was closed when CTD surfaced. Two bottles tripped at chl max. Depth ~85m. AJ: resolution was Niskins 1 & 2 closed at the bottom (~83m); Niskin 3 @ ~70m, 4 @ ~60m, 5 @ ~ 45m, no samples from 6 (39m); Niskin 7 @ ~ 30m, 8 @ ~ 22m, 9 @ ~14m, 10 and 11 in chl max @ ~10m, and 12 at the surface (3m).
17	CM9. Depth ~194m
18	CM9. 1" fish flushed from Niskin bottle from previous cast, number uncertain. Depth ~306m.
19	CM11. Bottles 7 and 5 air valves not tightened.
20	CM0. Syringe & caps left on when first put in water; pulled out; caps removed; then put back. Bottle 6 (205m) did not closed (second time today); lanyard tripped, bottle didn't close. Bottle 1 was warm to touch so assume bottle 2 tripped first.
21	CM10.
22	CM11. Sigma-theta value of 27.10 used, instead of 27.15. All upcast density surfaces proved to be lower (up to several m's below) than where they'd been on the downcast. Bottle 1-bottom- did not closed completely (shown as having fired on upstairs screen; bottle may not have been properly set).
23	CM11.
24	CM10. Chl max and 24.6 sigma-theta surface coincided at same depth.

Station	Description

25	CM0. Bottle 11 valve was loose.
26	CM10. Bottle 12 valve slightly loose.
27	CM0. Bottle 6 & 7 loose values.
28	CM6.
29	CM2.
30	CM1. Chl max at bottom-->no bleow max pigment sample taken. 24.6 sigma-theta surface went by too quick to be caught; no others.
31	CM1. Chl max at bottom-->no bleow max pigment sample taken. Chl max not clearly defined.
32	CM1&2. No real chl max.
33	CM0. Bottle 1 & 2 loose valves. Rosette came to surface on 2nd bottle and brought back down to trip.
34	CM2.
35	CM1.
36	CM9. Ship moved forward slightly during downcast. Transmissometer curve very strange near bottom; sampled twice; nepheloid layer?. Bottle 10 no trip signal first trip, tripped again (both actually tripped at 28m). Note trip order (AJ: some mixing by package likely): 1 (136),
2 (120), 3 (125), 4 (130), 5 (101), 6 (85), 7 (75), 8 (65), 9 (45), 10 (28), 11 (28),
12 (3).
37	CM0. Bottle 6 did not close
38	CM10.
39	CM.11
40	CM10. Passed up 24.6 sigma-theta (@47m) trying to catch chl max (@45m) and had to go back down; bottles/depths are in order (AJ: went back down for bottle 11).
41	CM11.
42	CM11. New altimeter did not give reliable bottom reading; ship's fathometer said bottom was 988m.
43	CM10. CTD drifting with current, boat moved to keep wire straight throughout cast (~0.7 knots). z=661m.
44	CM11. SOG ship speed ~ 1 knot during cast (CTD tow?). z=493m.
45	CM12. Interesting salinity and density (and trans) feature below 340m. z=374m.
46	CM0. SOG ~2.1 knots during downcast, <1 kt during upcast (strong currents). Bottle 12 was fired 3 times, would not trip.
47	CM11. Extra PM sample taken from bottle 3 in a near-bottom nepheloid layer.
48	CM8. Possible leak on bottle 10; inspected by EQ: o-rings appeared fine, bottle did not leak during inspection after samples were drawn. Extra PM samples taken in mid-depth nepheloid layers at bottles 3 and 8.
49	CM2.
50	CM3. 5 bottles were tripped; but 6 were closed (original intention was for just 4); bottles/depths may not match. Due to unexplained bottle tripping (2 extra were tripped) it is difficult to say where chl max is; therefore only surface sample was taken. AJ: resolution was Niskins 12, 1, and 2 were closed at the bottom; Niskin 3 (chl max) @ ~15m, 4 @ ~8m, and 5 @ ~3m.
51	CM1 & 2.
52	CM2. Very close to land, we could swim to it. z=17m.
	Station	Description

53	CM2. Forgot to trip bottom bottle; #1 @ 25m; rosette went back down to 30m to trip bottle 2. z=28.
54	CM0. Tripped two bottles at 17m (bottles 5 & 6); seven bottles total. Throw drifter; energize two. z=43.
55	CM7. Tripped 2 (9 & 10) at 20m (since no confirming trip bit for bottle 9). Plankton tow after cast. z=94m. Nepheloid layer.
56	CM11. Bottle 12 difficult to cock & uncock. z=194m. Two drifters thrown.
57	CM0. Wavey.
58	CM1. Bottle 2 shown on upstairs screen as not having closed, but it did.
59	CM12. Bottle 10 was shown on upstairs screen to not have closed, but it did. on upstairs screen bottle 5 was shown to have closed, but actually didn't due to its not being properly set. Small leak on bottle 1 ("dribble"), from bottom. AJ: resolution was Niskin 1 @ ~606m, 2 @ ~500m, 3 @ ~420m, 4 @ ~382, no samples from 5 @ ~315m, 6 @ ~225m, 7 @ ~150m, 8 @ ~124m, 9 @ ~108m, 10 @ ~80m, 11 @ ~56m, 12 @ ~3m.
60	CM12. Bottle 1 leaking from spigot, bottom?
61	CM10. Bottle 12 fired 1st, so 11 was last bottle to close. Bottle 1 is still leaking.
62	CM9. High seas and SOG of 2.2 knots during upcast. Two drifters.
63	CM12. High seas and strong drift forced bottom bottle to be tripped @ 7m above bottom. z=709m.
64	CM10. z=495m.
65	CM11. z=259m.
66	CM11. Two drifters. Net tow. z=193m.
