Source: Original data were collected as part of the response to the MC252
Deepwater Horizon oil spill event. Data may have been provided
by the Subsurface Monitoring Unit (SMU), BP, EPA, DFO Canada
(Department of Fisheries and Oceans), or various labs that
         completed sample analysis.

Actions: The original data were copied into the data/0-data/ directory.

Subsequent processing was performed on the CTD data set at the
National Coastal Data Development Center using Sea-Bird SEASOFT
         software (http://www.seabird.com/software/softrev.htm) as documented
         below:
         - Steps to Process CTD data
         - Steps to Reprocess CTD data for upcasts and bottles
         - Steps to Reprocess CTD data including the wild-edit option

Processed data (bin-averaged ASCII files) were transformed into NetCDF
         format.

All transformed data were then copied into the data/1-data/ directory.

Files:
about/
This directory contains files generated by NODC with ancillary information
about the data submission.

DWH_BM_Cruise_20.xml -
Metadata record for the archived data, in Federal Geographic Data Committee
(FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (FGDC-STD-001-1998)
XML format with remote sensing extensions.

dirinfo.txt -
A text file, which contains the ship's call sign and cruise ID of data
collection, to facilitate NODC's online dissemination of this data set.

data/0-data/
This directory contains the data files as submitted to NOAA by various ships in
accordance with SMU Guidance. Various levels of compliance with SMU guidance
were achieved, with increased compliance over time.
Some data may be in Sea-Bird proprietary formats (e.g., hexadecimal files).
There is little or no precise documentation as to shipboard processing steps.

data/1-data
This directory contains the data files processed at NODC/NCDDC in accordance
with documented standards. Sea-Bird hexadecimal files processed with SEASOFT
software and transformed to NetCDF are in this directory. Documentation or
processing specifications is provided in the about/ directory for reference.
