CRUISE SUMMARY
This cruise forms part of the JGOFS - India programme, with objectives conforming to the JGOFS. Time-series studies were carried out at 64oE longitude and 21oN latitude in the Arabian Sea.
Diurnal samplings were carried out for a period of 13 days. CTD profiles, chlorophyll and primary productivity, zooplankton composition and biomass, microbial densities and bacterial productivity, TCO2, nutrients and radionuclides were investigated. A total of 38 casts were made to analyse these parameters. Primary productivity mooring was deployed on 3 different days. The sediment trap was deployed on 2 occasions, for a total period of 9 days. Distinct signatures of winter cooling were noticed during the cruise. Clear cut changes in the various parameters were noticed over the period of the cruise.
In addition, CTD profiles were studied at 4 stations along 20oN between 63 and 67oE. Gravity and box corers were deployed at depths ranging between 500 and 1000 m along the shelf at 4 stations for studies on interstitial water nutrients, redox sensitive elements, organic geochemistry, total organic carbon and stable isotopes of foraminiferans.
The cruise commenced on the 5th February at Goa and ended at Bombay on the 26th.
