Abstract

In the Arabian sea, physical and chemical features are closely linked with biological productivity. Upwelling during the south-west monsoon and winter cooling during the north-east monsoon enhance the primary productivity of the area. High biomass of zooplankton in the region, either directly through the convectional food chain, or indirectly through the microbial loop, leads to large biomass of fishes.
