MANDATE

• To undertake basic and applied research on various aspects of structurel engineering, e.g. bridge engineering, tall structures, wind engineering an dspecial structures, natural disaster mitigation and material science.
• To take up sponsered R & D work for public and private organisations, especially with regard to computer-aided analysis and design, minitoring of important bridges and structures by actual fiels measurements, tests on special models, etc.
• To undertake consultancy assignments involving analysis and design of complex structures.
• To develop comprehensive computer software for structural engineering applications.
• To act as an information bank for the expert knowledge and know-how on the design and construction of a wide range of complex and innovative structures.
• To organize short term specialized courses for practicing structural engineers.

• Main frame computing facility.
• Industrial wind tunnel.
• Dynamic-cum-heavy test laboratory for the component and scaled model tests under static and reversal loading.
• A wide range of modern instruments for the experimental stress analysis, dynamic, destructive testing of structures and components in the laboratory and field.
• Distress diagonostic of existing bridges through field instrumentation.

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS                          

• Performance studies on the super structure of Taj Mahal through theological and field studies for Archeological Survey of India.
• Assessment of structural behaviour of reactor buildings of aNarora and Kakrapara Atomic Power Projects of the Nuclear Power Corporation.
• Field studies on the well foundations of ganga Bridge at Varanasi for the Ministry Of Surface Transport ( MOST ).
• Performance studies on the super structure of the two Mandovi bridges in Goa for MOST.
