INFORMATION ON GOA

Goa is also known as the Pearl of the Orient. It occupies a prominent place on the tourist map of the world. Major attractions include long stretches of Calangute, Colva and Vagator beaches; Dudhsagar and Arvallem waterfalls, and Mahavir and Bondla Wildlife sanctuaries. The Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral Churches at Old Goa are famous for their intricately carved wooden altars made by Goan craftsmen. Ponda Taluka has 7 temples within a radius of 5 km. The most interesting is the tiny but exquisite Shri Manguesh Temple on green hills, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple boasts of its giant silver statues, old local chandeliers, tiles on walls and the tall and elegantdeepastambha (lamp post) at the entrance. Goan food is delicious with rice and fish being important components of the diet. Languages spoken are - Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, English and Portuguese. According to the 1991 census this tiny state of 3,702 sq. km. has a population of 1.17 million.

Daily temperatures in October are expected to be in the range of 24-30 degrees Centigrade.
