PurposeThe intent of these data is to make high-resolution bathymetry available to the public for a wide variety of uses such as research and Earth Science analysis. These data are not intended to be used for navigation. Nautical charts produced and certified by NOAA should be used for navigational purposes. For more information on NOAA's nautical charts, go to NOAA's Office of Coast Survey website
Use Limitations
  • Not to be used for navigation. Although these data are of high quality and useful for planning and modeling purposes, they are not suitable for navigation. For navigation, please refer to the NOS nautical chart series.
  • These data are considered raw and have not been subjected to the NOAA's quality control or quality assurance procedures. They are released for limited public use as preliminary data to be used only with appropriate caution. NOAA cannot assume liability for any damages caused by any errors or omissions in the data, nor as a result of the failure of the data to function on a particular system. NOAA makes no warranty, expressed or implied, nor does the fact of distribution constitute such a warranty.

Lineage information for: series
Lineage StatementMultibeam data is collected by vessels of varying characteristics including ships, small boats, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV). The NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (formerly NGDC) archive raw data, processed data, and associated products. All data and products are made available to the public via NCEI's map services and search interfaces.

Processing Steps
  • 2015-04-22T00:00:00 - NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
