417 ACPN60 PHFO 022221 TWSCP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS Central Pacific Hurricane Center Honolulu HI 1220 PM HST Fri Nov 2 2018 For the central North Pacific, between 140W and 180W: There was one tropical cyclone in the central North Pacific basin during the month of October. In late September, Walaka formed far south of the main Hawaiian Islands, becoming the first tropical cyclone to develop in the central Pacific since 2016. Walaka rapidly intensified to a Category 5 hurricane as October began, prompting Hurricane Warnings for portions of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument. Walaka transitioned to an extratropical low far northwest of Hawaii on 6 October.
