Two-day hybrid event with science experts
The 7th NOAA AI Workshop is drawing near! This year, it will focus on generative AI (GenAI) for environmental science applications. From September 16–17, science experts and industry leaders will meet virtually and in person in Boulder, Colorado, at the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Atmospheric Research Center Green Campus for the workshop.
Workshop Series
This year’s AI workshop series concludes with a two-day event featuring panels and sessions spanning a wide ranging of topics around GenAI for environmental sciences.
- Part 1: March 3, 2025 (Virtual): A workshop on "Generative Modeling for Earth and Space Sciences”. (Event has concluded, video recording will be available in August 2025.)
- Part 2: June 9, 2025 (Virtual): A workshop on "Generative AI for Information Services”. (Event has concluded, video recording will be available in August 2025.)
- Part 3: September 16–17, 2025 (Hybrid): The series concludes with a hybrid event, "Generative AI for Earth and Space Science Applications” in Boulder, Colorado.
AI Making Waves
- AI has made inroads within NOAA. The NOAA Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) was established in 2021 and continues to support the use of AI and machine learning within a growing community of practice.
- AI has the potential to improve efficiencies in scientific research and automate processes and tasks that humans have typically done. AI continues to be used across NOAA—see how it’s used to “Highlight (sic) Innovation in Practice” across our organization in our comprehensive StoryMap.
- NOAA has integrated Gemini into its Google Workspace to enable NOAA workforce to leverage generative AI to support scientific and administrative workflows.
- Previous workshops have covered subjects that support the expansion of AI. Interested in learning more? Registration for in-person participation concludes on August 29, 2025, or until the event reaches maximum capacity. Hybrid registration will continue until September 15, 2025.
