In order to address the important issue of the variation of continental ice volume and related changes in global sea level through the late glacial period, we employ an extended set of observations of the pre-glacial and postglacial history of sea-level rise at the island of Barbados, together with a refined model of continental deglaciation and an accurate methodology for the prediction of postglacial sea-level change. Although our results provide unambiguous evidence that the post LGM rise of eustatic sea-level was very close to the widely supported estimate of 120 m, the data also provide evidence that LGM must have occurred 26,000 years ago, approximately 5000 yr earlier than the usually assumed age.","pubRank":"1"}],"site":[{"NOAASiteId":"1865","siteName":"Barbados","siteCode":null,"mappable":"Y","locationName":"Ocean>Atlantic Ocean>North Atlantic Ocean>Caribbean Sea>Barbados","geo":{"geoType":"Feature","geometry":{"type":"POINT","coordinates":["13","-60"]},"properties":{"southernmostLatitude":"13","northernmostLatitude":"13","westernmostLongitude":"-60","easternmostLongitude":"-60","minElevationMeters":null,"maxElevationMeters":null}},"paleoData":[{"dataTableName":"Barbados Core 98","NOAADataTableId":"9413","earliestYear":31366,"mostRecentYear":726,"timeUnit":"cal yr BP","earliestYearBP":31366,"mostRecentYearBP":726,"earliestYearCE":-29416,"mostRecentYearCE":1224,"coreLengthMeters":null,"dataTableNotes":null,"species":[],"dataFile":[{"fileUrl":"https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/pub/data/paleo/coral/atlantic/barbados2006-noaa.txt","urlDescription":"NOAA Template File","linkText":"Sea Level Reconstruction","variables":[{"cvDataType":"CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"sampling metadata>notes","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":null,"cvUnit":null,"cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":null,"cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":"Location","cvFormat":"Character","cvShortName":"Location"},{"cvDataType":"CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"sampling metadata>notes","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":null,"cvUnit":null,"cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":null,"cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":"Species","cvFormat":"Character","cvShortName":"Species"},{"cvDataType":"CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"sampling metadata>sample identification","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":null,"cvUnit":null,"cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":null,"cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":null,"cvFormat":"Character","cvShortName":"Sample"},{"cvDataType":"CLIMATE RECONSTRUCTIONS|CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"earth system variable>geographic variable>sea level>relative sea level","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":null,"cvUnit":"length unit>meter","cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":null,"cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":"not corrected for uplift; meters below modern sea level","cvFormat":"Numeric","cvShortName":"Depth_m"},{"cvDataType":"CLIMATE RECONSTRUCTIONS|CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"earth system variable>geographic variable>sea level>relative sea level","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":null,"cvUnit":"length unit>meter","cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":"corrected","cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":"corrected for uplift; meters below modern sea level","cvFormat":"Numeric","cvShortName":"Sea_Level"},{"cvDataType":"CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"age variable>age","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":null,"cvUnit":"time unit>age unit>calendar year before present","cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":null,"cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":null,"cvFormat":"Numeric","cvShortName":"age_calBP"},{"cvDataType":"CORALS AND SCLEROSPONGES","cvWhat":"age variable>age","cvMaterial":null,"cvError":"standard deviation>one standard deviation","cvUnit":"time unit>duration unit>calendar year","cvSeasonality":null,"cvDetail":null,"cvMethod":null,"cvAdditionalInfo":null,"cvFormat":"Numeric","cvShortName":"age_1s"}],"NOAAKeywords":["earth science>paleoclimate>reconstructions>sea level"]}]}]}],"reference":{"pastThesaurusSkos":"https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf","pastThesaurusExplorer":"https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/cvterms","gcmdKeywordThesaurus":"https://earthdata.nasa.gov/earth-observation-data/find-data/idn/gcmd-keywords"},"dataLicenseDescription":null,"dataLicenseUrl":null}
