SYNOPSIS...  .SUMMARY OF IMPACTS...  Drought conditions remained unchanged across the area in February. Extreme drought covers all but a handful of counties in the Tri State area, extending from northeast Colorado into all of southwest Nebraska and most of northwest Kansas. Agricultural impacts continue with topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies rated short to very short in 40 to 50 percent of reporting counties and winter wheat rated poor to very poor in about 30 percent of reporting counties. Wildfires also continue to be a concern on dry and windy days.  The latest drought monitor was issued on March 4, 2021.  Drought intensity is rated on a scale from D0 (abnormally dry) to D4 (exceptional).  EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT (D4) was occurring in the following counties: None. While we have been fortunate to receive significantly above normal snowfall this past winter season, long term drought conditions persist across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Much of northeast Nebraska remains in a moderate drought, as well as parts of west central Iowa and extreme southeast Nebraska. The remainder of the area remains abnormally dry.
