Well above normal temperatures and very dry conditions have continued through the first two weeks of March. A couple of cold fronts have brought very minimal rainfall, mainly across the lower Texas coast and lower Rio Grande Valley, and only a brief respite from late spring or early summer like temperatures. Over the past 90 days...the majority of rainfall has fallen across mainly Cameron, Willacy, and coastal Kenedy counties. The March 9 Drought Monitor has added Exceptional Drought (D4) across much of the eastern half of Webb County, including the city of Laredo, as well as a sliver of far southwestern portions of Duval County. Outside of D4 exists Extreme Drought (D3) encompassing most of Duval County, southwestern McMullen County, most of La Salle County (foregoing the extreme northern portions of the county) and much of Webb County except the far western tip which is split with Severe Drought (D2) and Moderate Drought (D1).
