This study suggests that a series of geochemical profiles obtained from a modern coral in the northern SCS records annual PDO activity dating back to 1853. These geochemical data are significantly correlated with the PDO index, and their patterns of variation closely match those of the PDO index over the last century. The relationship between the PDO and coral geochemistry may be related to the influence of the PDO on rainfall on Hainan Island. Rainfall patterns influence the volume of terrestrial runoff, which, in turn, is a primary determinant of d18O and ?d18O values in coral; however, coral d13C values are also influenced by the 13C Suess effect. The results indicate that Sr/Ca ratios in coral are affected by a combination of sea surface temperature and terrestrial runoff. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: National Basic Research Program of China # Grant: 2009CB421206, 2013CB956103 #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: National Natural Science Foundation of China # Grant: 40902050, 40830852, 41173004 #--------------------------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name: Hainan Island # Location: China # Northernmost_Latitude: 19.29 # Southernmost_Latitude: 19.29 # Easternmost_Longitude: 110.66 # Westernmost_Longitude: 110.66 # Elevation_m: -4 #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: 11LW4 Sr/Ca d18O Deng2013 # First_Year: 1853 # Last_Year: 2011 # Time_Unit: year Common Era # Core_Length_m: # Parameter_Keywords: trace metals, oxygen isotopes # Notes: #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Resource: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Description: Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus terms, definitions, and relationships in SKOS format. # # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-var components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, data type, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) # ## age_AD age,,,year Common Era,,corals and sclerosponges,,,N, ## d18Oporit delta 18O,Porites sp.,,per mil PDB,annual,corals and sclerosponges,,isotope ratio mass spectrometry,N, ## Sr/Ca-porit strontium/calcium,Porites sp.,,millimole per mole,annual,corals and sclerosponges,,inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy,N, #------------------------ # Data: # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing_Values: age_AD d18Oporit Sr/Ca-porit 1853 9.315 -4.81 1854 9.431 -4.99 1855 9.196 -4.96 1856 9.408 -4.72 1857 9.2 -5.08 1858 9.011 -5.32 1859 9.121 -5 1860 9.252 -4.74 1861 9.139 -5.02 1862 9.194 -4.93 1863 9.474 -4.71 1864 9.166 -4.73 1865 9.326 -4.52 1866 9.41 -4.53 1867 9.345 -5.08 1868 9.271 -4.92 1869 9.23 -4.57 1870 9.506 -4.64 1871 9.098 -5.14 1872 9.153 -5.31 1873 9.208 -5.08 1874 9.209 -4.66 1875 9.436 -4.52 1876 9.153 -4.83 1877 9.105 -4.88 1878 9.222 -4.81 1879 9.143 -4.8 1880 9.139 -4.94 1881 9.205 -4.63 1882 9.171 -5.02 1883 9.29 -5.04 1884 9.186 -4.44 1885 9.228 -4.86 1886 9.394 -4.67 1887 9.175 -4.93 1888 9.143 -4.98 1889 9.171 -4.54 1890 9.181 -4.61 1891 9.284 -4.75 1892 9.228 -4.57 1893 9.166 -4.65 1894 9.392 -4.4 1895 9.252 -4.49 1896 9.33 -4.52 1897 9.44 -4.48 1898 9.419 -4.76 1899 9.348 -4.6 1900 9.376 -4.65 1901 9.257 -5 1902 9.307 -4.98 1903 9.281 -4.75 1904 9.345 -4.86 1905 9.413 -5.03 1906 9.259 -4.79 1907 9.231 -4.79 1908 9.178 -5.23 1909 9.142 -5.09 1910 9.175 -4.72 1911 9.091 -4.9 1912 9.14 -4.88 1913 9.18 -4.95 1914 9.19 -4.81 1915 9.162 -4.58 1916 9.089 -4.87 1917 9.194 -4.67 1918 9.216 -4.78 1919 9.188 -4.66 1920 9.264 -4.94 1921 9.308 -4.76 1922 9.253 -4.7 1923 9.313 -4.79 1924 9.211 -4.97 1925 9.141 -5.29 1926 9.124 -5.05 1927 9.164 -5.05 1928 9.107 -5.28 1929 9.154 -5.21 1930 9.177 -5.46 1931 9.125 -5.16 1932 9.203 -5.14 1933 9.185 -4.76 1934 9.388 -4.9 1935 9.185 -4.99 1936 9.14 -4.69 1937 9.198 -4.76 1938 9.244 -4.94 1939 9.278 -5.07 1940 9.172 -5.28 1941 9.173 -5.36 1942 9.223 -5.38 1943 9.094 -5.41 1944 9.203 -5.69 1945 9.292 -5.43 1946 9.352 -5.3 1947 9.218 -5.37 1948 9.192 -5.31 1949 9.409 -5.07 1950 9.413 -4.82 1951 9.286 -5.3 1952 9.212 -5.27 1953 9.099 -5.22 1954 9.173 -5.08 1955 9.146 -5.29 1956 9.167 -5.28 1957 9.091 -5.09 1958 9.234 -5.01 1959 9.082 -5.43 1960 9.28 -5.2 1961 9.26 -5.02 1962 9.215 -5.27 1963 9.315 -5.12 1964 9.318 -5.32 1965 9.181 -4.99 1966 9.21 -4.83 1967 9.243 -5.18 1968 9.028 -5.08 1969 9.092 -5 1970 9.121 -5.51 1971 9.292 -4.93 1972 9.173 -5.13 1973 9.208 -4.96 1974 9.12 -5.27 1975 9.241 -5.43 1976 9.095 -5.55 1977 9.05 -5.55 1978 9.075 -5.51 1979 9.139 -5.2 1980 9.323 -5.52 1981 9.042 -5.67 1982 9.26 -5.74 1983 9.3 -5.43 1984 9.261 -5.42 1985 9.313 -5.56 1986 9.079 -5.73 1987 9.306 -5.29 1988 9.223 -5.07 1989 9.111 -5.66 1990 9.097 -5.42 1991 9.264 -5.07 1992 9.252 -4.73 1993 9.196 -5.3 1994 9.233 -5.07 1995 9.257 -5.55 1996 9.184 -5.12 1997 9.13 -5.36 1998 9.102 -5.3 1999 9.279 -5.2 2000 9.294 -5.48 2001 9.387 -4.96 2002 9.198 -5.64 2003 9.25 -5.56 2004 9.265 -5.17 2005 9.225 -5.24 2006 9.278 -5.16 2007 9.406 -5.05 2008 9.342 -4.84 2009 9.246 -4.62 2010 9.219 -4.49 2011 9.426 -4.53
