Each dated sample represents the status of the lake at that time. The sediment type the samples were taken from are in column "Note". The elevation of each sample is in column "Depth top". Modern samples used to calculate the reservior age are bellow the paleo-data. Bellow that are samples from Gongba River, that are most likely not from the paleo-lake Daihai but represent an additional, more localized lake. # Provided Keywords: Lake level, closed-basin lake, Holocene humid period #-------------------- # Publication # Authors: Yonaton Goldsmith, Hai Xu, Adi Torfstein, Jianghu Lan, Yunping Song, Jin Zhang, Kang’en Zhou, Jun Cheng, Yehouda Enzel # Published_Date_or_Year: 2022-11-28 # Published_Title: Abrupt contraction of the Indo-East Asian monsoons ends the Holocene humid period # Journal_Name: Geophysical Research Letters # Volume: 49 # Edition: # Issue: 22 # Pages: # Report_Number: e2022GL100137 # DOI: 10.1029/2022GL100137 # Online_Resource: # Full_Citation: # Abstract: Rain-belt migration, and in particular monsoon migration, are a cardinal, yet under-constrained aspect of climate change. Here, we present a new lake-level record from a closed-basin lake in northern China together with a new compilation of available lake levels from closed-basin lakes located at the northern margins of East Asian and Indian monsoon regions. These data show that ca. 6 ka ago, changes in water availability, recorded by the surface areas of the closed-basin lakes, shrunk dramatically, within a few decades, and have not been restored to their pre-6 ka sizes since. These data imply that the Indo-East Asian monsoon systems underwent a large coeval southward contraction, which preceded the gradual decline in insolation forcing, and abruptly ended the Holocene Humid Period. This new compilation enables to constrain potential feedback mechanisms involved in the early termination of the Holocene Humid Period at the monsoon fringes. #-------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: Israel Science Foundation # Grant: 2229/21 #-------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: National Natural Science Foundation of China # Grant: U20A2078 #-------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: Strategic Priority Research Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences # Grant: XDB40010300 #-------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name: Lake Daihai # Location: China # Northernmost_Latitude: 40.8 # Southernmost_Latitude: 40.2 # Easternmost_Longitude: 112.9 # Westernmost_Longitude: 112.3 # Elevation_m: 1218 #-------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: daihai_c14_goldsmith2022 # Earliest_Year: 12314 # Most_Recent_Year: 58 # Time_Unit: calendar year before present # Core_Length_m: # Parameter_Keywords: lake level # Notes: The data are radiocarbon ages from lake sediment outcrops.
