Our results imply that during these periods, salt accumulated in the tropical Atlantic, creating favorable conditions for an abrupt resumption of the thermohaline circulation and abrupt northern hemisphere warming. Furthermore, we suggest that the observed pattern of millennial climate variability during the last glacial and deglaciation resulted from the interaction between the relatively slow rhythm of expansion and decay of the northern hemisphere ice sheets, and El Niño–Southern Oscillation variability, through changes in the position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. This interaction generated an oscillator with millennial time response that operated at times of sufficient northern hemisphere ice sheets extent. #------------------ # Publication # Authors: Waelbroeck, C.; Levi, C.; Duplessy, J.C.; Labeyrie, L.; Michel, E.; Cortijo, E.; Bassinot, F.; Guichard, F. # Published_Date_or_Year: 2006 # Published_Title: Distant origin of circulation changes in the Indian Ocean during the last deglaciation # Journal_Name: Earth and Planetary Science Letters # Volume: 243 # Edition: # Issue: # Pages: 244-251 # Report: # DOI: 10.1016/j.epsl.2005.12.031 # Online_Resource: # Full_Citation: # Abstract: #------------------ # Publication # Authors: Kaufman, D., N. We present a global compilation of quality-controlled, published, temperature-sensitive proxy records extending back 12,000 years through the Holocene. Data were compiled from 679 sites where time series cover at least 4000 years, are resolved at sub-millennial scale (median spacing of 400 years or finer) and have at least one age control point every 3000 years, with cut-off values slackened in data-sparse regions. The data derive from lake sediment (51%), marine sediment (31%), peat (11%), glacier ice (3%), and other natural archives. The database contains 1319 records, including 157 from the Southern Hemisphere. The multi-proxy database comprises paleotemperature time series based on ecological assemblages, as well as biophysical and geochemical indicators that reflect mean annual or seasonal temperatures, as encoded in the database. This database can be used to reconstruct the spatiotemporal evolution of Holocene temperature at global to regional scales, and is publicly available in Linked Paleo Data (LiPD) format. #------------------ # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: # Grant: #------------------ # Site_Information # Site_Name: MD79-257 # Location: Indian Ocean # Country: # Northernmost_Latitude: -20.4 # Southernmost_Latitude: -20.4 # Easternmost_Longitude: 36.3 # Westernmost_Longitude: 36.3 # Elevation: -1262 #------------------ # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: MD79-257.Levi.2007 # Earliest_Year: 15695.489 # Most_Recent_Year: 1553.723 # Time_Unit: cal yr BP # Core_Length: # Notes: #------------------ # Species # Species_Name: # Species_Code: # Common_Name: #------------------ # Chronology_Information # Chronology: # depth age SD age_type # 0.0 2070.0 100.0 age14C # 50.0 4100.0 120.0 age14C # 100.0 6180.0 170.0 age14C # 140.0 7820.0 250.0 age14C # 180.0 8550.0 80.0 age14C # 190.0 8980.0 90.0 age14C # 220.0 9210.0 100.0 age14C # 260.0 9560.0 110.0 age14C # 270.0 9850.0 190.0 age14C # 280.0 9880.0 130.0 age14C # 290.0 9820.0 130.0 age14C # 300.0 10240.0 170.0 age14C # 320.0 10180.0 100.0 age14C # 330.0 10640.0 230.0 age14C # 340.0 10850.0 110.0 age14C # 350.0 10560.0 140.0 age14C # 370.0 10850.0 150.0 age14C # 380.0 11440.0 100.0 age14C # 390.0 12500.0 230.0 age14C # 400.0 12720.0 130.0 age14C # 410.0 12520.0 210.0 age14C # 420.0 12360.0 110.0 age14C # 430.0 12300.0 210.0 age14C # 440.0 12620.0 130.0 age14C # 460.0 13060.0 110.0 age14C # 470.0 14230.0 230.0 age14C # 480.0 14740.0 130.0 age14C # 490.0 15220.0 180.0 age14C # 510.0 16620.0 390.0 age14C # 530.0 18470.0 320.0 age14C # 550.0 19090.0 240.0 age14C # 570.0 20530.0 320.0 age14C #------------------ # Variables # # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-longname components (9 components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, archive, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) # ## age age,,,calendar year before present,,paleoceanography;climate reconstructions,,,N, ## ageMarine09 age,,,calendar year before present,,paleoceanography;climate reconstructions,,,N,age using Marine09 ## ageUncertainty age,,unspecified margin of error,year,,paleoceanography;climate reconstructions,,,N,using Marine09 ## temperature sea surface temperature,foraminifer assemblage,,degree Celsius,summer,paleoceanography;climate reconstructions,,modern analogue technique,N,warm season ## temperature-1 sea surface temperature,foraminifer assemblage,,degree Celsius,winter,paleoceanography;climate reconstructions,,modern analogue technique,N,cold season # #------------------ # Data: # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing_Values: nan # age ageMarine09 ageUncertainty temperature temperature-1 1553.723 1635.213 118.683 28.06 25.92 1865.299 1902.07 215.85 26.91 24.93 2467.789 2413.585 300.671 28.01 25.73 3043.854 2919.103 326.584 28.35 26.39 3594.61 3420.326 309.17 27.79 26.65 4120.947 3915.552 239.188 28.02 26.45 4623.565 4417.206 238.134 27.91 25.91 5103.018 4925.127 310.433 27.92 26.79 5559.743 5427.011 333.127 28.09 26.51 5994.101 5924.568 316.875 28.23 26.49 6406.399 6416.088 253.828 28.13 26.58 6796.926 6879.267 238.051 28.55 27.53 7165.978 7315.482 290.554 28.23 26.68 7513.882 7745.2 308.068 28.04 26.53 7841.017 8168.421 296.265 28.27 27.0 8147.839 8482.529 268.867 28.49 27.47 8434.893 8694.1 246.603 27.47 25.81 8702.83 8901.158 211.066 28.13 25.94 8952.426 9103.705 152.024 28.13 26.16 9184.586 9464.458 160.816 28.27 26.66 9400.355 9758.14 130.079 28.58 26.95 9600.93 9846.481 134.968 28.01 26.61 9787.658 9930.999 130.086 28.59 27.59 9962.04 10027.683 134.195 28.01 25.81 10125.733 10134.393 147.45 27.54 24.94 10280.549 10237.655 145.834 27.89 25.47 10428.446 10337.469 126.641 27.57 25.6 10571.526 10533.354 139.119 27.82 25.69 10712.024 10790.393 147.301 27.81 25.62 10852.299 11011.361 165.231 28.15 25.88 10994.818 11234.918 213.456 27.8 25.14 11142.143 11430.222 228.563 27.76 25.69 11296.913 11602.302 230.219 28.81 28.15 11461.824 11768.891 235.918 28.42 26.98 11639.607 11904.096 233.487 28.43 26.97 11833.004 12008.908 223.733 28.38 26.56 12044.741 12109.996 215.736 27.32 25.08 12277.501 12207.359 207.321 28.35 26.79 12533.889 12583.233 196.828 28.27 25.99 12816.406 13407.896 238.684 28.18 26.12 13127.406 13971.803 243.584 27.58 25.08 13469.064 14125.359 229.523 28.6 27.02 13843.335 14246.01 221.495 27.95 26.23 14251.909 14338.029 216.566 28.43 27.45 14696.172 14426.147 212.597 27.71 25.38 15177.155 14590.255 220.036 28.46 27.78 15695.489 14824.962 248.869 27.21 24.93
