Symptoms of the collapse included: rapid depopulation of the countryside and 
ceremonial centers in 50 to 100 years, abandonment of administrative and residential 
structures and cessation of: building construction, carving of sculptured monuments, 
manufacture of pottery, stonework, jade carvings, Classic calendrical (long count) and writing systems.
