A lack of high-quality reconstructions of past hydroclimate has recently been identified as a critical research gap. Speleothems, with their precise chronologies, widespread distribution, and ability to record changes in local to regional hydroclimate variability, are an ideal source of such information. Here, we present a new version of the Speleothem Isotopes Synthesis and AnaLysis database (SISALv3), which has been expanded to include trace element ratios and Sr isotopes as additional, hydroclimate-sensitive geochemical proxies. The oxygen and carbon isotope data included in previous versions of the database have been substantially expanded. SISALv3 contains speleothem data from 365 sites from across the globe, including 95 , 85 , 52 , 25 , 29 , and 14 Sr-isotope records. The database also has increased spatiotemporal coverage for stable oxygen (892) and carbon (620) isotope records compared with SISALv2 (which consists of 673 and 430 stable oxygen and carbon records, respectively). Additional meta information has been added to improve the machine-readability and filtering of data. Standardized chronologies are included for all new entities along with the originally published chronologies. Thus, the SISALv3 database constitutes a unique resource of speleothem palaeoclimate information that allows regional to global palaeoclimate analyses based on multiple geochemical proxies, permitting more robust interpretations of past hydroclimate and comparisons with isotope-enabled climate models and other Earth system and hydrological models. The database can be accessed at https://doi.org/10.5287/ora-2nanwp4rk (Kaushal et al., 2024). #----------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: # Grant: #----------------------------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name:Brown's Folly mine # Location:United Kingdom # Northernmost_Latitude:51.38 # Southernmost_Latitude:51.38 # Easternmost_Longitude:-2.37 # Westernmost_Longitude:-2.37 # Elevation_m:150 #----------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: Boss isotopes Baldini2001 SISAL v3 # First_Year: 32 # Last_Year: -47 # Time_Unit: Cal Yr BP # Core_Length_m: # Parameter_Keywords: oxygen isotopes, carbon isotopes # Notes: Contact: Franziska Lechleitner; Type: stalagmite; Dist. from entrance (m): 300; Entity Status: current; Depth Reference: from top; Overlying Bedrock Thickness (m): 10; Drip Type: unknown; Drip Height: 4; Drip Water Equilibrium Studies: yes; Trace Elements Measured: ; Organics Measured: unknown; Fluid Inclusions Measured: unknown; Fabric Studies: yes; Clumped Isotopes Measured: no; Noble Gases Measured: no; C14 Measured: yes; ODL Measurements: no; Mg/Ca Measured: no; Type from WOKAM: continuous carbonate; Vegetation Type: deciduous; Land Use: other (see notes); Copernicus lcc: urban / built up; Cover Type: thin; Host Rock Trace Elements: yes; Drip Water Trace Elements: yes; Isotope Standard: PDB; d18O dripwater carbonate difference: NA; Trace Elements Datafile: no; Trace Elements Metadata File: NA; Cave Map: no; Entity Scan: no #----------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: Uranium-Thorium # Chronology_Download_Resource: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/pub/data/paleo/templates/noaa-wds-paleo-uth-terms.csv # Chronology_Download_Description: Uranium-Thorium terms and definitions. # Chronology_Notes: Metadata and data from SISAL v3 database. # Rejection_Rationale: # 238U_Decay_Constant: # 234U_Decay_Constant: # 230Th_Decay_Constant: # Initial_230Th/232Th: # Initial_230Th/232Th_Method: # Age_Model_Method: # Missing_Values: NA # Chronology_Table: # date_type depth_bot_mm thick_mm samp_id material_dated weight_mg age_uncorr_BM age_uncorr_uncert_pos_yr age_uncorr_uncert_neg_yr date_used 238U_ppb 238U_uncert_ppb 232Th_ppt 232Th_uncert_ppb 230Th_ppt 230Th_uncert_ppb 230Th_232Th_act 230Th_232Th_act_uncert 230Th_238U_act 230Th_238U_act_uncert 234U_238U_act 234U_238U_act_uncert 230Th_232Th_act_init 230Th_232Th_act_init_uncert age_corr_BP1950 age_corr_uncert_pos_yr age_corr_uncert_neg_yr # Event; actively forming 0 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA yes NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA -47 1 1 # Event; start of laminations 22 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA yes NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA 32 1 1 # Event; end of laminations 0 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA yes NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA -47 1 1 #----------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: Dating Lamina # depth_lam lam_thickness lam_age lam_age_uncert_pos lam_age_uncert_neg # 22 1.5 32 NA NA # 20.5 1 23 NA NA # 19.5 1.5 16 NA NA # 18 1 8 NA NA # 17 1 3 NA NA # 16 2 -3 NA NA # 14 2 -11 NA NA # 12 2 -21 NA NA # 10 0.5 -27 NA NA # 9.5 2 -28 NA NA # 7.5 0.5 -34 NA NA # 7 1.5 -35 NA NA # 5.5 1.5 -38 NA NA # 4 0.5 -40 NA NA # 3.5 2.5 -41 NA NA # 1 1 -45 NA NA # 0 1 -47 NA NA #----------------------------------------- # Variables # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Resource: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Description: Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus terms, definitions, and relationships in SKOS format. # ## depth_sample depth,,,millimeter,,speleothems,,,N, ## interp_age age,,,calendar year before present,,speleothems,,,N, ## d18O_measurement delta 18O,calcite,,per mil VPDB,,speleothems,,,N,measurement precision is 0.1 per mil ## d13C_measurement delta 13C,calcite,,per mil VPDB,,speleothems,,,N,measurement precision is 0.1 per mil #----------------------------------------- # Data: # Missing_Values: NA depth_sample interp_age d18O_measurement d13C_measurement 22 32 -4.41131972012 -9.04216104886 20.5 23 -4.43099100112 -8.81457245909 19.5 16 -4.5073603886 -9.01825279322 18 8 -4.54500903221 -9.37797136149 17 3 -4.57438730169 -9.09847929312 16 -3 -4.45959735842 -8.90642528846 14 -11 -4.72746914873 -9.34079778461 12 -21 -4.73636134101 -9.68086947585 10 -27 -4.75521782582 -9.84525605591 9.5 -28 -4.87971475756 -9.98540658198 7.5 -34 -4.7547246597 -10.082504185 7 -35 -4.71604679984 -10.2179121471 5.5 -38 -4.73513914671 -10.2688322306 4 -40 -4.60102099451 -10.1393246389 3.5 -41 -4.72605397639 -10.0215967638 1 -45 -4.64940584284 -9.9520131983 0 -47 -4.75252841414 -9.98459234215
