Agricultural and Forest Meteorology DOI: 10.1016/j.agrformet.2012.07.003 Notes: This collection of PISY raw ring widths were made by the authors listed above on a fairly high mountain pass in the western portion of the Khentii Mountains of Mongolia for the potential usage in a reconstruction of hydroclimate. We didn’t think these trees would be exceptionally drought sensitive, but they were too old to not sample. Many of these trees were also from closed-canopy forest conditions, so they are not from a classic dendroclimatic site (see Fritts, 1976). Some cored here were from a portion of the forest that recently experienced an intense fire. There is much evidence of fire in this landscape. Use with care. For example, detrending these series mostly requires detrending as would be performed of trees from forest interior or closed-canopy forests. There appears to be periods of suppression and release from several trees when they were young. Fire damage is also a likely contributor to ring width variation. These trees have a ‘mixed’ signal – most importantly, their drought signal is very weak. Some raw data here might have values of -8888 for years where the rings were distorted or otherwise not useful for dendroclimatology. The latest version of ARSTAN reads these as dummy variables and can in-fill these gaps.
