Björbo, Sweden, Picea abies - SWED312 Additional Site Information Torbjörn Axelson Main purpose of this collection: Dating local historical timber. The recent samples are from spruces growing on various sites but in a rather restricted area around Björbo village in Dalarna. 1-3 radii are taken from each tree. According to bad correlations for the innermost part of some radii, many of them have been truncated. The older samples are from buildings, most of them found in or around Björbo, but two (JutbS... and klgr... samples) are from Grangärde about 30 km towards south from Björbo. All the buildings are from barns and similar buildings belonging to ordinary farmers. We can expect that most of the trees did grow on elevations of 200-350m. Most of the samples, both those from living trees and those from buildings, are taken with an increment borer, sanded, scanned with 1200dpi, and measured with CooRecorder from Cybis.se. Approximate coordinates for the areas where the trees did grow, and coordinates for most of the buildings were taken from an internet map (www.eniro.se, May 2006).
