While many southwestern drought assessments have been limited to the past 1,200 years, longer paleorecords of moisture variability do exist for the UCRB. Here, gridded drought-atlas data in the UCRB domain along with naturalized streamflow data from the instrumental period (1906–2021) are used in a K-nearest neighbor nonparametric algorithm to develop a streamflow reconstruction for the Lees Ferry gage starting in 1 CE. The reconstruction reveals a second-century drought unmatched in severity by the current drought or by well-documented medieval period droughts in the UCRB. Although data are sparse, analysis of individual long tree-ring records and other paleoclimatic data also support the occurrence of an exceptional second-century drought. #--------------------------------------- # Funding_Agency # Funding_Agency_Name: # Grant: #--------------------------------------- # Site_Information # Site_Name: Colorado River at Lees Ferry, AZ # Location: Arizona # Northernmost_Latitude: 36.864333 # Southernmost_Latitude: 36.864333 # Easternmost_Longitude: -111.587872 # Westernmost_Longitude: -111.587872 # Elevation_m: 939.6984 #--------------------------------------- # Data_Collection # Collection_Name: Lees Ferry Recon LBDA gridcells Gangopadhyay2022 # First_Year: # Last_Year: # Time_Unit: # Core_Length_m: # Parameter_Keywords: streamflow # Notes: Grid cells used from the Living Blended Drought Atlas (LBDA) #--------------------------------------- # Chronology_Information # Chronology: #--------------------------------------- # Variables # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Resource: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/paleo-search/skos/past-thesaurus.rdf # PaST_Thesaurus_Download_Description: Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus terms, definitions, and relationships in SKOS format. # # Data variables follow that are preceded by "##" in columns one and two. # Variables list, one per line, shortname-tab-var components: what, material, error, units, seasonality, data type, detail, method, C or N for Character or Numeric data) # ## gpt sample identification,,,,,climate reconstructions,,,N,LBDA grid cell number ## lat latitude,,,degree north,,climate reconstructions,,,N, ## lon longitude,,,degree east,,climate reconstructions,,,N, #------------------------ # Data: # Data lines follow (have no #) # Data line format - tab-delimited text, variable short name as header # Missing_Values: None gpt lat lon 1 35.75 -109.75 2 35.75 -108.75 3 35.75 -108.25 4 36.25 -109.75 5 36.25 -109.25 6 36.25 -108.75 7 36.25 -108.25 8 36.25 -107.75 9 36.25 -107.25 10 36.75 -111.25 11 36.75 -110.75 12 36.75 -110.25 13 36.75 -109.75 14 36.75 -109.25 15 36.75 -108.75 16 36.75 -108.25 17 36.75 -107.75 18 36.75 -107.25 19 37.25 -111.75 20 37.25 -111.25 21 37.25 -110.75 22 37.25 -110.25 23 37.25 -109.75 24 37.25 -109.25 25 37.25 -108.75 26 37.25 -108.25 27 37.25 -107.75 28 37.25 -107.25 29 37.25 -106.75 30 37.75 -111.75 31 37.75 -111.25 32 37.75 -110.75 33 37.75 -110.25 34 37.75 -109.75 35 37.75 -109.25 36 37.75 -108.75 37 37.75 -108.25 38 37.75 -107.75 39 38.25 -111.75 40 38.25 -111.25 41 38.25 -110.75 42 38.25 -110.25 43 38.25 -109.75 44 38.25 -109.25 45 38.25 -108.75 46 38.25 -108.25 47 38.25 -107.75 48 38.25 -107.25 49 38.25 -106.75 50 38.75 -111.25 51 38.75 -110.75 52 38.75 -110.25 53 38.75 -109.75 54 38.75 -109.25 55 38.75 -108.75 56 38.75 -108.25 57 38.75 -107.75 58 38.75 -107.25 59 38.75 -106.75 60 39.25 -111.25 61 39.25 -110.75 62 39.25 -110.25 63 39.25 -109.75 64 39.25 -109.25 65 39.25 -108.75 66 39.25 -108.25 67 39.25 -107.75 68 39.25 -107.25 69 39.25 -106.75 70 39.75 -111.25 71 39.75 -110.75 72 39.75 -110.25 73 39.75 -109.75 74 39.75 -109.25 75 39.75 -108.75 76 39.75 -108.25 77 39.75 -107.75 78 39.75 -107.25 79 39.75 -106.75 80 39.75 -106.25 81 40.25 -111.25 82 40.25 -110.75 83 40.25 -110.25 84 40.25 -109.75 85 40.25 -109.25 86 40.25 -108.75 87 40.25 -108.25 88 40.25 -107.75 89 40.25 -107.25 90 40.25 -106.75 91 40.25 -106.25 92 40.25 -105.75 93 40.75 -110.25 94 40.75 -109.75 95 40.75 -109.25 96 40.75 -108.75 97 40.75 -108.25 98 40.75 -107.75 99 40.75 -107.25 100 40.75 -106.75 101 41.25 -110.75 102 41.25 -110.25 103 41.25 -109.75 104 41.25 -109.25 105 41.25 -108.75 106 41.25 -108.25 107 41.25 -107.75 108 41.25 -107.25 109 41.75 -110.25 110 41.75 -109.75 111 41.75 -109.25 112 41.75 -108.75 113 41.75 -108.25 114 41.75 -107.75 115 42.25 -110.75 116 42.25 -110.25 117 42.25 -109.75 118 42.25 -109.25 119 42.25 -108.75 120 42.25 -107.75 121 42.25 -107.25 122 42.75 -110.25 123 42.75 -109.75 124 42.75 -109.25 125 43.25 -109.75
